Suggested March 2024 London’s Cycle Hire Scheme Finally Gets An Official Iphone App

Cycling is definitely the fastest and most pleasant way to get around central London, and the large-scale cycle hire scheme – informally known as Boris Bikes, after Mayor Boris Johnson who launched the scheme – finally has an official app.

Named after the scheme’s new sponsor, the Santander Cycles App allows users to find the nearest docking station, check availability of bikes and obtain a release code to hire one. Transport for London has long made the data publicly available, allowing developers to create their own apps with limited functionality, but it’s taken five years to create an official app that allows you to hire the bikes.

There are more than 700 Boris Bike docking stations in London, with a total of 11,500 bicycles available. More than 10 million journeys were made by Boris Bike last year. Users pay £2 ($3) for a one-day membership, and can then make unlimited use of the bikes for journeys of up to 30 minutes each (which will pretty much get you anywhere to anywhere in central London).

The app is a free download from iTunes, and the full press release can be found below.

London’s newest red icon – Santander Cycles – today launched a revolutionary new App, making the cycle hire scheme easier to use than ever before.

The new Santander Cycles App for Android and iOS smartphones is free to download for both members and casual users. In addition to viewing the nearest docking station and bike availability, the new App is able to send a ‘bike release’ code straight to a user’s phone, which means they can hire a cycle without having to use the docking station terminal.

All customers need to do is register with their bank card, use the App to ‘hire now’ from a nearby docking station, and just tap the code into a docking point to release a bike for use.

Extra features of the Santander Cycles App

See up-to-the minute information about which docking stations have cycles and spaces available;

Users can log in to their membership accounts;

Buy 24 hour and annual subscriptions;

Receive notifications showing the cost at the end of a hire period;

View recent journeys and charges;

Tells users exactly when their hire period has started – and confirms the bike has been securely docked at the end of a hire period;

Plan a journey with an easy to follow map – Transport for London’s (TfL’s) real-time cycling Journey Planner is available at the touch of a button, which shows users where they can hire a bike and how many are available at any one of the Capital’s 750 docking stations;

Smart design means it can be constantly upgraded and improved by TfL and Santander with the latest app technology available.

Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, said:

‘The new Santander Cycles App will make finding and hiring a bike in our great Capital city even more of a doddle. The App is packed full of handy new features and is part and parcel of our plans to take the cycle hire scheme to the next level and encourage more people on to two wheels.’

Leon Daniels, TfL’s Managing Director of Surface Transport, said:

‘This is just one of the exciting new developments we’re bringing to life with our new partnership with Santander. Together we’re working hard to make cycling an integral part of London life, so anyone can jump on a bike to get to work, the shops or discover the Capital. The new official Santander Cycles App will make hiring a bike much easier for both members and casual users by being able to find the nearest docking station and check how many bikes are available, and get an access code so you can just hop on and go without spending time at the terminal.’

Nathan Bostock, CEO, Santander UK, said:

‘We’re absolutely committed to growing and developing Santander Cycles together with TfL by making more bikes available, providing more docking stations and offering extra benefits in future to give Londoners and visitors to the Capital the best possible experience.

The new red-and-white livery of Santander Cycles is already widespread across London and the transition is continuing at pace as docking stations and distribution vans are rebranded.

Santander Cycles is the second-largest cycle hire scheme in Europe, and since it was introduced in 2010, around 40 million journeys have been made using the bikes, making it a popular and affordable way to travel around London for work or leisure.

Usage of the scheme rose by a quarter last year and is at a record high, with more than 10 million journeys made in 2014. Customer satisfaction is also at an all-time high, with over 80 per cent of members intending to renew their membership.

Netgear Push2Tv Pvt1000 Widi Adapter Gets Official

Networking Leader Introduces Push2TV, Device that Transforms How Consumers View, Share and Enjoy Digital Content on the Big Screen TV

The capabilities of the new NETGEAR Push2TV and laptops with Intel Wireless Display powered by select 2010 Intel Core processors were demonstrated today as part of Intel president and CEO Paul Otellini’s keynote presentation at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Show attendees can view Push2TV in Intel’s booth #7153 in the Central Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center, or in the NETGEAR suite #305 at the Las Vegas Marriott across from the Convention Center.

Later this month, Best Buy will be the first retailer to make this new networking solution available to consumers with the launch of an exclusive Blue Label 2.0 series consisting of three laptop computers developed in partnership with top PC OEM brands.

“Our customers are increasingly dependent on their laptops, and they tell us they’re looking for easy ways to migrate the content of their computers to their TVs more freely,” said Jason Bonfig, vice president of computing at Best Buy. “NETGEAR Push2TV is unique in how it seamlessly scales the viewing and browsing experience of the notebook PC to the TV along with an easy, intuitive way to connect and operate.”

The industry has taken several approaches to connect the TV to the Internet: network-enabled TVs and Blu-ray players; Digital Media Adapters (DMAs) and set-top boxes that connect to the Internet via the home network; dedicated home theater PCs or notebooks connected to the TV via HDMI or other cables; and other PC-to-TV applications. However, these solutions have multiple limitations, such as the websites they can access and the video codecs and file formats that they can play.

“Consumers have been frustrated by the existing solutions so we focused on ease of use during the design and collaboration process with NETGEAR,” said Erik Reid, director mobile marketing, Intel. “The result is that Intel Wireless Display, available on select laptops featuring Intel’s all new 2010 Core family processors, and the NETGEAR Push2TV adapter have taken the hassle out of sharing content, so consumers can sit back, relax and enjoy the content on their large screen TVs.”

The total solution consists of NETGEAR Push2TV connected to the TV and Intel Wireless Display preloaded on new-generation notebooks powered by the 2010 Intel Core Processor Family. Intel Wireless Display captures fully rendered display frames in real-time and sends the compressed video and audio directly to Push2TV via Intel My WiFi technology, the industry’s first commercially available Wi-Fi Personal Area Network (PAN) or Wi-Fi Direct solution, creating a protected short-hop high-bandwidth wireless connection between the laptop and Push2TV. When compared to other solutions where the TV adapter connects to the home network or gateway, Push2TV reduces the wireless bandwidth overhead by up to 50 percent.

“We are delighted to partner with Intel to be the first to bring Intel Wireless Display to the living room, providing customers with what is truly the easiest way to extend the PC viewing experience to the TV — wirelessly, seamlessly and over a protected link,” said Vivek Pathela, vice president and general manager of NETGEAR home and consumer products. “The combination of our Push2TV with a new-generation PC with Intel Wireless Display means consumers no longer have to crowd around their PCs to experience the infinite stream of Internet content with their friends and family.”

With a sleek black minimalist design, a very intuitive setup and Wi-Fi technology, Push2TV quickly beams the laptop screen to the HDTV over a protected link. Therefore, customers are able to easily access almost any content they would normally be able to access on their PCs.* More specifically, with Push2TV and a new generation notebook powered by the 2010 Intel Core Processor Family connected to the Internet and/or home network, consumers can:

— Sit back, relax and enjoy music, pictures and videos from their laptop, home network or the Internet in HD on their big screen TVs and home entertainment systems;

— Surf the web from the comfort of their couches, accessing many of today’s online movies and TV shows and going anywhere a web browser will take them;

— Easily move from room to room or take Push2TV on vacation or business trips due to its small, lightweight form factor.

Pricing and Availability

Backed by a one-year warranty and 24/7 technical support, the new NETGEAR Push2TV (PTV1000) will be available in the U.S. via Best Buy later this month. Push2TV will be bundled together with select laptop computers at promotional prices, or sold separately to end consumers at prices starting at $99.99 in the U.S. Best Buy Blue Label 2.0 laptops will retail starting at $899.99. In addition to wireless display, the Blue Label 2.0 laptops include features such as lighter weight and longer battery life.

Iphone 11 Review: Apple Finally Takes Affordable Flagships Seriously

About this Apple iPhone 11 review: I used the iPhone 11 for a little over two weeks on Cricket. It was running iOS 13.1. Android Authority purchased the phone for the purposes of this review.

What’s the difference between the iPhone 11 and 11 Pro?

There are four main hardware differences between the iPhone 11 and the 11 Pro family:

Display size, resolution, and type

Battery size and the lack of fast charging out of the box

The camera configuration

There are a few other minor areas where the iPhone 11 downgrades from the Apple iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max, but we’ll let the chart below do the talking.

Just like the iPhone 11 Pro Max, shots taken in the early evening with night mode turned out almost look like they were taken during the day:

Who is the iPhone 11 for?

The more aggressive pricing might seem like Apple’s way of attracting Android users, but really it feels like Apple is mostly competing against itself here. The iPhone 11 is a decent phone for the money, but it offers little to entice Android users.

Here’s where the iPhone 11 arguably bests Android competitors in the same price range:

It’s Apple. While most of our readers might not care, mainstream consumers will be tempted by the notion of an Apple device that is priced well below $1,000.

Speed and performance exceed many of its Android rivals.

A best-in-class camera experience.

Where the iPhone 11 loses ground:

Build quality. While this is subjective, I felt the iPhone 11 didn’t feel as nice as some Android flagships.

It runs iOS. This alone probably makes the iPhone 11 a harder sell for Android users who aren’t interested in swapping ecosystems.

Storage configurations are pretty puny unless you’re willing to shell out more money.

Moving past ecosystems, the iPhone 11 feels like one of the most reasonably priced Apple products I’ve ever used. I often use the term “Apple tax” to refer to how Apple charges more for less, but this argument doesn’t apply as much to the iPhone 11. Don’t be completely fooled by the price tag though, as Apple is cheating a little bit to get down to this price point. One word: storage.

This is the iPhone most Apple fans should get, but it doesn’t really offer anything to entice Android users.

Just about every Android phone with similar performance and pricing offers double — or even quadruple — the base storage. For most users, Apple’s starting 64GB is just not enough. If you jump up to the 128GB model, you’re now paying $749. Compare that to the OnePlus 7 Pro with 128GB, and you’re paying a premium of $80. On the flipside, the iPhone 11 has a better camera and arguably better performance, so for some it might be worth the slight premium.

Nonetheless, the iPhone 11 shows Apple is taking the affordable flagship movement seriously and is willing to more closely match the value you’ll find over at Camp Android.

Apple iPhone 11 vs iPhone 11 Pro: What’s the better option?

Most of you reading this are probably just curious about what Apple is up to, and not actively shopping for an iPhone. If you are considering making the switch to iPhone, which should you get?

Most users will be best served by the iPhone 11. The iPhone 11 camera is missing a few bells and whistles, the design of the phone isn’t quite as nice, and the display ditches AMOLED for LCD. However, most people won’t notice these differences during day-to-day use. They might notice the extra $300 in their bank account though.

Meanwhile, the iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max are for those who want the best. Maybe you want to show off, maybe you are a spec nerd like myself. Or perhaps you just feel if you’re already spending a huge chunk of change, why not spend a little more and get the best of the best. To each their own. We won’t argue that the iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max are the best iPhones in existence — but the iPhone 11 is a much better value.

This marks the end of our Apple iPhone 11 review. What do you think, could this $699 slab sway you away from Android?

Social Media Marketing: Should You Hire An Agency Or Keep It In

The first is to hire a professional agency to handle the campaign. The second is to do it in-house, where one or more employees are responsible for performing tasks. Below, I’ll outline the pros and cons of each option.

Social Media Agency: Advantages

For instance, most businesses will typically use Facebook and Twitter, but an agency might recommend and know how to extract value from sites like Tumblr, Pinterest, and Instagram, depending on your industry or product.

Since they’re an outside party, a social media agency can make an objective assessment of your business and implement a strategy that gives you the greatest chance of success. In many cases, they can also ensure the quickest results because they know what works and what doesn’t. Due to the learning curve associated with social media marketing, partnering with an agency can prevent typical newbie mistakes. Rather than spending time experimenting with different possibilities, a concrete plan can be put into action right away so you can get a quicker return on investment.

As your campaign progresses, an agency can also use analytics and other tools to optimize various aspects of the campaign. For instance, they may use software like HootSuite, SproutSocial, or Google Analytics to monitor each social media channel. Knowing which software to use and how to use it takes time to master. Luckily, the skill set of an agency will help unearth a wealth of information over time, which will translate into more followers, more shares, and ultimately, increased sales.

Another issue is that outsiders don’t always have a full understanding of your industry. Since the content created for a campaign is based around niche-specific information, it can be difficult for an outsider to gain the trust of an audience. Although an agency can spend time researching and learning about an industry, it’s unlikely to match the knowledge of a company representative who has been in the industry for years.

In addition, you may find yourself at a loss when you and your agency part ways. If your business is completely reliant upon a partner, and never learns the fundamentals of campaign management, it can make things challenging down the road.

In House: Advantages

By using team members from within your company, you’re much more likely to have specific industry knowledge and insight. This can be valuable when it comes to creating content in which your audience is interested. Choosing the in-house approach is also an effective way to lay down solid social media foundations and maintain a level of stability.

You can also expect to save a considerable amount of money with this option. According to Mashable, “Handling all social media efforts in-house is often the most affordable route for small business owners. Per hour, an agency’s time or a consultant’s time is going to be much more expensive than a full or part-time employee.” When you don’t have a big marketing budget, using the talents of in-house employees can allow you to achieve results without breaking the bank.

Having team members who understand how to run a social media campaign can have definite long-term benefits. Although there will be a learning curve—and you won’t experience results overnight—your company will eventually gain the knowledge and experience to thrive in the social media space. You won’t be at the mercy of a single agency, and there will be added sustainability.

In terms of drawbacks, you may not have adequate human resources to effectively run a proper social media marketing campaign. If employees already have their hands full with other tasks, it may simply be asking too much to spend hours each week on social media. In some cases, this can spread team members too thin, leaving other areas of your business to suffer.

It may also be a matter of limited abilities and/or enthusiasm. Sometimes, employees just aren’t interested in this type of marketing and don’t want to take the time to learn how it works. Without everyone on board and collaborating with one another, a social media campaign can do more harm than good.

There’s also the issue of the length of time it takes to see tangible results. Before you gain a serious following and build a name for yourself, you’re likely to experience some growing pains. Rather than getting a large amount of exposure in weeks, it could take months or even years. This can be demoralizing to some companies who are hoping to see results right away.

Finally, it’s possible to make the same mistakes with an in-house approach. Since team members might not know about all the resources for analyzing data, they can end up using the same technique even when it’s ineffective. There is also the problem that in-house employees lack the objectivity of an agency. They may convince themselves that something is working when it really isn’t, just to appease management.

In conclusion, when choosing your approach to social media marketing, there are several factors to take into account. Some businesses opt for hiring an agency for every single detail of a campaign, while others prefer to do everything themselves. Whatever your preference, there are pros and cons to each method.

Can You Use An Airtag Without An Iphone?

Many Android users may have this question. After all, most Apple devices can be used without another Apple device; you can use an iPhone, iPad, Mac or AirPods without owning any (other) Apple device. This is also true for many Apple services, such as Apple TV+ and Apple Music.

Although there are alternative item trackers out there, such as Tile, the appeal of AirTags is that they can connect up with any iPhone out there — and there are a lot of them — to help locate the AirTag. The short answer to whether you can use an AirTag if you don’t own an iPhone (or iPad) is — not really. There are workarounds of sorts, but the functionality is reduced. In this article, we will go through what you can and can not do with an AirTag without an iPhone (or iPad).

What you need in order to set up an AirTag

The usual way to set up an AirTag is using an iPhone. You can also use an iPad. That’s it. Apple doesn’t provide any other way to set up an AirTag.

If you don’t have an iPhone or iPad, but you can borrow or use one temporarily, you could technically set up an AirTag that way. However…

You must have an Apple ID or create one.

The owner of the borrowed device must sign out of their Apple ID.

You must sign in using your Apple ID.

If you aren’t careful, you might lose or merge data; in other words, the owner of the borrowed device probably doesn’t want to do this. You can avoid the possibility of merging data by having the owner sign out and factory reset the device before you sign in, however, this is more trouble and is only suggested if it isn’t the owner’s main device.

Can you use an Android phone to track an AirTag?

You can not use an Android device to track an AirTag like you would using an iPhone. You can make a nearby AirTag beep if it is far from its paired iPhone (iPad) using the Tracker Detect app. These apps are designed to find AirTags that don’t belong to you. They would only let you know if an AirTag is close to you, so it would be no use if you are trying to locate, say, your luggage or a lost pet.

Can you track an AirTag from Find My in a browser?

No. Although you can access chúng tôi from any browser, and there is a Find My feature on chúng tôi it doesn’t include Items, just Devices. So you can see the location of your iPhone, iPad, Mac and AirPods, but not your AirTags.

Can you track an AirTag using a Mac?

Yes. The Find My app on Mac can locate both Devices and Items. However, it won’t work quite as well as an iPhone for a couple of reasons:

When looking for an AirTag, you usually want to be able to move around as you search for it — which is possible but less convenient with a MacBook.

Other considerations

Users who have tried setting up an AirTag using a borrowed device report that the AirTag will alert as being lost because it has been far from the device used to set it up for too long. It will make a sound whenever its location changes. Some users have removed the AirTag speaker.
