Kryptomon, the highly anticipated NFT game and hottest new GameFi project that attracted more than 100,000 people to register interest in it during its week-long launch, has partnered with DODO to unveil its KMON-BNB Liquidity Mining campaign. The highly anticipated crypto NFT game and hottest new GameFi project, Kryptomon, has announced a partnership with DODO, the DeFi protocol, and on-chain liquidity provider to unveil its KMON-BNB Liquidity Mining Campaign.

Through the staking pool, Kryptomon is now offering the community the opportunity to make their funds work for them and earn passive income in the form of KMON (the currency attached to the Kryptomon world) as well as DODO tokens.

The campaign is part of DODO’s Booster Program. 

Participation is easy. The Kryptomon community – players who are also known as ‘Trainers’ – simply need to head over to DODO’s website, connect their crypto wallet and provide KMON-BNB liquidity in exchange for DODO LP tokens. People can then stake these LP tokens and be rewarded with KMON and DODO in return.

A maximum of $45,000 worth of DODO and 225,000 KMON tokens in liquidity mining rewards will be available every week. Microsoft Could Alienate Hardware Partners With New Tablets

Microsoft’s Surface tablet is a measured gamble to enter the cutthroat tablet business, but the company could be alienating longtime hardware partners that are also expected to announce Windows 8 devices starting later this year.

The Surface tablet models come with a 10.6-inch display and will be distributed directly to customers, via Microsoft stores and the company’s online store. Microsoft’s goal is to offer a package of hardware and software built around Windows so the company can effectively compete with Apple, which offers the iPad and iPhone devices running on the iOS platform, analysts said.

Microsoft is offering two tablets, the Surface with Windows RT for ARM processors, and the Surface Pro with Windows 8 Pro for x86 Intel processors. The Surface tablet with Windows RT is lighter and comes with Office 15, which includes widely used productivity applications such as Word and Excel. Microsoft’s new tablets will come with a kickstand and a thin cover that doubles as a keyboard and trackpad.

No Confidence in Partners?

If the Surface tablets become successful, Microsoft could potentially be stealing future revenues from its partners who view the tablet segment as profitable, said Roger Kay, principal analyst at Endpoint Technologies Associates.

“I have to believe that [the partners] are fairly discontent about it,” Kay said. “The tablet is the heart and soul of Windows 8, and it looks like Microsoft has reserved it.”

Microsoft has licensed Windows to hardware makers for PCs since the 1980s, but that business model may be getting antiquated, Kay said. Microsoft may be seeking a new business model around tablets, but at the same time the PC market is not going anywhere and Microsoft wants to retain its Windows licensing business, Kay said. Microsoft may be experimenting with a new tablet business model, but the software company will have to strike the right balance in maintaining a relationship with the PC makers on tablets and PCs.

Shaw Wu, a financial analyst at Sterne Agee, agreed, saying Microsoft’s tablets could eat into the sales of devices from Windows partners. The full impact of Microsoft’s tablets on PC makers has yet to be determined, Wu said in a research note sent on Tuesday.

The Surface is crucial for Microsoft to establish a presence in the tablet market and to compete with Apple, said David Daoud, research director for personal computing at IDC. Microsoft’s move to tablets came likely because PC makers failed to take the lead in making tablets good enough to compete with Apple, Daoud said.

“[Device makers] have been lagging in terms of creativity,” Daoud said.

Aiming for iPad

Apple’s iPad dominates the market while competitors have stopped making certain tablet models or are trying to catch up. Hewlett-Packard last year discontinued the TouchPad, while Dell has discontinued Streak consumer tablets, and both companies are now planning to re-enter the consumer tablet market with devices based on Windows 8. Tablets with the Android OS offered by companies like Samsung, Asus, Acer and Lenovo have not sold as well as the iPad.

Microsoft had to take the lead in development as device makers were not willing to spend on research and development, Daoud said. Device makers are making razor-thin margins on consumer PCs and tablets, and have limited spending on innovation in tablets. Ultimately Microsoft’s lead with the Surface tablets could inspire device makers to release the next-generation Windows hardware and get a better understanding of the software and hardware ecosystem, Daoud said.

“The move is somewhat predictable. What is unpredictable is Microsoft taking the lead on the hardware side,” Daoud said.

“Selling x86-based tablets in the same retail channels as Windows RT tablets will confuse consumers and sow discontent if consumers buy x86 and think they’re getting something like the iPad. Microsoft and its partners need to articulate a compelling strategy for how they will manage consumer expectations in the channel,” Rotman Epps wrote.

But with or without the help of device makers, Microsoft is now gearing up to battle Apple.

“They have to do something, they can’t just sit there and let Apple take over the world,” IDC’s Daoud said.

Novell Seeks Partners Across Linux/Windows Integration

Novell is now on the lookout for more partners to work on-site at customer locations to help out with product maintenance and optimization. Opportunities with Novell are also especially strong for VARs with interest and abilities in Linux/Windows integration, security and identity management, and customization of thin client environments, various officials said at BrainShare.

“Novell is providing services in support of its software sales,” said Colleen O’Keefe, senior VP of Novell Services. With a lengthy background in working with the channel, the company will now dig down into its VAR relationships in moves to support its products.

“We’ll be working through our [internal] consulting arm, too. And we’ll also grow our partner infrastructure, so that the customer is assured of a deeper pool of experience,” she told LinuxPlanet.

O’Keefe listed current product support priorities that include ID and security management, along with Novell’s new Open Enterprise Server (OES) product, Zenworks resource management, and workgroup collaboration.

Novell’s on-site consulting partners “make sure that products are running correctly, and that customers are optimizing the true value of the product,” she contended.

Novell is particularly keen on attracting new “service integrator” partners with skills in the area of identity and security management, to help customers implement and maintain Novell products such as Sentinel and Novell Identity Manager.

In light of the recent Novell/Microsoft agreement, VARs with skills in SUSE Linux/Windows integration will also be valued, she said.

Justin Steinman, marketing manager for Linux and open source solutions, concurred that crossplatform integration is an especially hot area for Novell VARs right now.

O;Keefe told LinuxPlanet that most mixed implementations spawned by the deal have been handled by inhouse consulting and engineering staff at Novell and Microsoft.

“First we look at the [initial] support structure required – how many dedicated engineers are needed [for Novell and Microsoft products]. Then we figure out what needs to be jointly worked on in terms of next steps such as virtualization, and how we’ll support that,” she said.

But at least one of these deployments – at HSPC – was spurred by a systems integrator, who called in Novell and Microsoft for help.

According to Jeff Jaffe, Novell’s executive VP and CTO, Novell’s new SuSE Linux thin client will also provide revenue opportunities for VARs. “At the end of the day, this is a channel play,” Jaffe said.

Novell is now working on a customization toolkit that can be used by both customers and VARs to tailor the thin client to specialized environments such as call centers, for instance, said Michael Applebaum, senior product marketing manager.

Beyond product consulting, Novell’s Services arm handles offerings that include customer training and phone support, O’Keefe noted.

Novell Services is still fleshing out a strategy for recruiting VARs in the desired areas, according to O’Keefe, who joined Novell only in December of last year.

After Novell purchased Cambridge Technology Partners several years ago, the company faced initial disgruntlement from some of its long-time VAR partners around Novell’s establishment of an inhouse consulting arm. Novell has continued, though, to run an extensive VAR program since then.

“We have some great partner relationships,” according to O’Keefe. In her view, the biggest challenge in establishing good relationships with integrators centers on “finding the right balance between cooperation and competition.”

At this point, Novell does not work with outside partners on phone support. Beyond its main phone bank in Provo, Utah, Novell has set up another call center located in India, to help reduce costs. “But [the center in India] is totally under our management,” she said.

“We haven’t yet fully explored how we might leverage partner relationships for phone support. But I wouldn’t rule that out,” according to O’Keefe.

Novell Services also dovetails its activities with those of Novell’s Global Strategic Alliances unit, which deals mainly with relationships with big ISV and OEM partners such as Microsoft, IBM, and Hewlett-Packard.

In another interview, Susan Heystee, VP of Global Strategic Alliances, indicated that Novell’s relationships with these large players depends on which type of product–and which arm of the partner organization–are involved.

“The hardware guys love virtualization,” Heystee told LinuxPlanet. But, she added, Novell’s activities in virtualization are also providing opportunities for ISVs of all sizes to build new management tools.
