Let’s say, you want to measure the pixels in a GIF image. If you turn off this feature, Screen Ruler will pause the GIF while taking the measurements.

Per color channel edge detection: If this feature is enabled, the Screen Ruler will test if the color channels are within a tolerance distance from each other.

Pixel tolerance for edge detection: You can change the pixel tolerance level on your screen for measurement by moving the Pixel tolerance for edge detection slider.

Draw feet on cross: If you turn on this feature, the Screen Ruler will add feet to the end of cross lines.

Line color: You can change the line color of the Screen Ruler.

When you activate Screen Ruler by pressing the desired shortcut keys, the Screen Ruler toolbar will appear on the top of your screen. It contains four different functions for pixel measurement on a screen.

Spacing: This is a cross-shaped sign. Select it if you want to measure pixels in both horizontal and vertical directions.

Horizontal spacing: It lets you measure the pixels on your screen in the horizontal direction.

Vertical spacing: It lets you measure the pixels on your screen in the vertical direction.

How To Use Text Predictions In Windows 11? – Webnots

Text predictions is the artificial intelligence feature in Windows that helps to suggest the words as you type. Instead of typing the complete word, you can select from the predicted matches and finish your documents faster. Another aspect is to avoid spelling mistakes when you type complex words. By default, Microsoft Office apps will highlight spelling mistakes and allow you to correct before finalizing your task. However, this is not the case with other apps and you may need to proofread or review your document manually for spelling errors. With the help of text predictions, you can choose correct words from the suggestions without worrying about spelling mistakes.

Text Predictions in Microsoft Word

Earlier, Microsoft Editor had a separate text suggestion tool that you can use within Word document (enable in Word Options and turn on/off from status bar). However, this feature was removed from Microsoft Editor as it is available as part of Windows OS.

Enabling Text Predictions in Windows 11

Follow the below instructions to enable text predictions in Windows 11:

Windows 11 Typing Settings

On the next screen, turn on the switch against “Show text suggestions when typing on the physical keyboard” option.

Enabling Text Suggestions in Windows 11

If you use multiple language inputs, then enable “Multilingual text suggestions” option. This will help to show text predictions for the language you currently select from the language bar.

How to Use Text Predictions?

Now that you have enabled text predictions in your system. The usage is pretty simple.

Open Word, Notepad and a chat message where you can type.

Start typing the word and you will see a small pop-up showing all suggestions.

Text Predictions in Microsoft Word

To select a word from the list of suggestions, use the up arrow to go to the pop-up. This will highlight the first word in the list, press enter key to select the first word. If you want to select other words, use the right or left arrow keys to navigate. If you do not want to select any suggested words, simply continue to type or press escape move the focus back to typing. Alternatively, you can use mouse or touch for selecting the word.

You can select each word while typing from the predictions to quickly finish the sentences and hence the document.

Use Arrows to Select Suggested Word

The cool part is that you can insert emoji symbols using the text suggestions without searching. For example, type checkmark to insert checkmark emoji or type rose to insert rose flower emoji symbol.

Enabling Text Predictions in Windows 10

Press “Windows + I” keys to open Settings app.

Select “Devices” and then “Typing” option.

Enable “Show text suggestions as I type on the software keyboard” option under “Typing” section. Similarly, enable “show text suggestions as I type” under “Hardware keyboard” section.

You can also enable “Multilingual text suggestions” to get text predictions for all installed languages on your computer.

Final Words

Though people use English as a communication language, it is not their native language. Due to this fact, there could be possibilities of spelling mistakes when you send emails or prepare documents. In addition, every time typing repetitive words may also take time. Windows operating system offers text predictions to manage these situations. However, if your primary objective is to avoid spelling mistakes and save time with that, then voice typing may work better for you. There is also “Dictate” function available in Microsoft Word which you can make use for voice typing.

Word Timesaving Tips: Random Text, Quick Definitions, Formatting Tricks And More

Quickly change Line Spacing

You can change the line spacing on a single paragraph, page, or the entire document in two easy keystrokes. Place your cursor anywhere on the target paragraphs, then press:

Ctrl+1 to change the line spacing to single spaced.

Ctrl+2 to change the line spacing to double spaced.

Ctrl+5 to change the line spacing to 1.5 (or one and a half spaced).

Note: You must use the numbers above the alphabet keys. This shortcut does not recognize the numeric keypad.

Rand command

1. To generate random text for tutorials (like this one), graphic designs and other projects, place your cursor at the beginning of a new paragraph and type =Rand(2,3) then press Enter. The first number determines the number of paragraphs, and the second number determines the number of sentences in each paragraph. For example, the following two paragraphs were generated using the =Rand(2,3) command.

2. You can also insert the random text in Latin; for example, =Lorem(2,2) looks like the text below:

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit. Maecenas porttitor congue massa.

Fusce posuere, magna sed pulvinar ultricies, purus lectus malesuada libero, sit amet commodo magna eros quis urna. Nunc viverra imperdiet enim. JD Sartain

Quick definitions

3. A panel on the right opens and displays the selected word with its definition.

Expand/Collapse paragraphs

Expanding and collapsing paragraphs make it easier to browse through long documents. For example, it’s easier to skim a document if all the text below the headers is collapsed. It’s also easier to read onscreen documents if the paragraphs that you’ve already read are collapsed. For extremely long documents, especially technical documents and reference materials, collapsed paragraphs are less intimidating for your readers and colleagues.

To set up this feature, you create headings that define sections of paragraphs that can be expanded or collapsed.

1. Type a few paragraphs (or use the =Rand command to create some random text). Enter a header over the first two paragraphs, then select it, and choose Heading1 from the Styles group under the Home tab.

2. Enter a few more paragraphs, add another header, then choose Heading1 again. Place your cursor on the first heading. Notice that a solid triangle appears. This symbol means this paragraph is collapsible.

4-5. Any subheadings (such as Heading 2, 3, 4, etc.) under Heading One will also collapse when the main Heading1 collapses.

Quick Underlines

When you want to run a line across the page, you don’t need to press and hold the hyphen or asterisk key and then add or subtract characters until you fill the line. Instead, type a sentence, press Enter, then do one of the following procedures:

Press the hyphen/dash (-) key three times, then press Enter to draw a .75 point underline.

Press the underscore ( _ ) key three times, then press Enter to draw a 1.5 point underline.

Press the tilde (~) key three times, then press Enter to draw a zigzag underline.

Press the asterisk/star (*) key three times, then press Enter to draw a dotted underline.

Press the equal (=) key three times, then press Enter to draw a double underline.

Easy tricks to rearrange lists

If you have a numbered or bulleted list of items and suddenly decide that number 2 should be number 5 and number 4 should be number 2, most people just cut and paste the listed items until they are rearranged in the proper order. For a short list, no problem. But if you’re working with a long list, this can be a real headache.

1. Position your cursor anywhere on the phrase,

2. Press Alt+Shift and hold, then press the up/down arrows to move the phrase up or down on the list.

3. Now all you have to do is renumber the list.

4. Bullet lists are easier because you don’t have to reorder the numbers once the list is reorganized.

Vertical Selection feature

The Vertical Selection feature is a handy tool for making quick changes to a vertical column of characters—for example, adding or removing an attribute such as bold or italics, changing the color, font, and/or size of the numbers, bullets, or text.

You can delete the selected vertical text without also deleting the rest of the text beside it. For example, you can delete the numbers in a list, but not the list.

5-6. You can also select the Numbering Library, and choose a nice number format for your list such as all lowercase letters or roman numerals.
