Suggested March 2024 How To Update The Software On Your Airtag

Learn how to update your AirTag to the most recent firmware in order to get the latest features and fixes, plus how to check its firmware version and see what’s new.

Non-Apple accessories from other companies that support Apple’s Find My network can be managed through the Find My app on your iPhone, iPad and Mac. This includes being able to manually update the software powering a compatible third-party device by selecting it underneath the Find My app’s “Items” tab. If there’s new software available, you’ll see an “Update Available” button. Tapping it forces a manual update outside of the regular schedule for automatic updates (if you don’t see the button, then the item is up to date). Strangely enough, the AirTag does not support downloading and installing firmware updates through the Find My app.

AirTag software updates are downloaded and installed automatically by the iOS operating system when the following conditions are met:

Your AirTag is in the Bluetooth range of its connected iPhone

The connected iPhone is running iOS 14.5 or later

There’s no way to manually force an update of the software powering your AirTag, and Apple spells it out in black and white. “Firmware updates are delivered periodically while your AirTag is in Bluetooth range of your iPhone,” Apple notes.

How to check the AirTag firmware version

You can check the current version of your AirTag’s firmware, as well as check out its serial number, by hitting its battery icon in the Find My app.

Open the Find My app on your iPhone, iPad or Mac.

In the Find My app hit the “Items” tab at the bottom.

Choose the AirTag you want to see more details about.

Now touch the tiny battery icon below your AirTag’s location.

Doing so will reveal the AirTag’s current firmware version and serial number.

How to see what’s new in AirTag firmware

There is no outward-facing software update mechanism for AirTag updates. As we said, the AirTag firmware is delivered completely autonomously. You won’t see any message to confirm that your AirTag has been updated nor will you be presented with the changelog. But that doesn’t mean Apple won’t let you see official release notes for AirTag updates—simply visit Apple’s support document covering all the changes, fixes and new features that are included in AirTag software updates. For instance, Apple recently bumped the AirTag software to version 1.0.301 but you wouldn’t be able to tell what’s new were it not for this helpful document. According to it, the update “tunes the unwanted tracking sound to locate an unknown AirTag more easily.” Read: 3 ways to find the GPS coordinates of any location on an iPhone

It would’ve been nice had Apple provided us with some kind of a visible interface for AirTag updates. In reality though, most folks will appreciate not having to deal with manually updating their AirTags. But it would be nice if there were some kind of an outward-facing user interface to tell the user not only that a new AirTag update is available but also list the changes as well as seek user permission before installing it. Bottom line: Don’t you worry about software updates for your AirTags, Apple will automatically deliver them when ready. Please follow iDownloadBlog to keep tabs on Apple news and learn about any changes and new features included in new firmware for your AirTag. Read: How to check the AirTag battery charge

How To Update Your Apps On Android

Apps on your Android routinely receive updates pushed by the apps’ developers to improve their functionalities. They often bring stability and performance improvements as well as security updates. By default, Android apps will update themselves automatically, but many users don’t know they can exert a level of control regarding when and how this process unfolds. To that end, this article looks at how to update your apps on Android automatically to gain that control.

With apps automatically updating, you won’t have to waste time checking to see whether a new version of a certain app is available. This option should be on by default, but if you want to check to be sure your Android apps update automatically, these steps show how to do so.

Open the Play Store app on your Android device.

Locate the search bar on top and tap on your profile icon on the right.

Select Settings.

Go to “Auto-update apps” and select one of the three options available. Our recommendation is to choose “Over Wi-Fi only” so that the apps update only when you’re connected to a Wi-Fi network. Alternatively, you can opt for “Over any network,” but keep in mind that data charges may apply in this case. If you’re traveling, we suggest you abstain from updating over any network to avoid overcharging your bill.

The third option is “Don’t auto-update apps.” Select this if you’re looking to update your apps manually.

Updating your apps manually is the better way to go about things for several reasons. First off, you get to choose when and where you update your apps. Secondly, you may not feel the need to perform the updates all at once, so you can just go ahead and update the one app you need to use at that time.

To learn how to update your Android apps manually, follow the steps outlined above, then select the “Don’t auto-update apps” option. Next, check which apps need updating.

In the Google Play Store app, tap on your profile picture again.

Select “Manage apps and device.”

Tap on the “Updates available” option to see details regarding the apps.

From here you can update each app manually by pressing the Update button.

Alternatively, you can use the “Update all” button and update all apps in one go. Depending on how many apps you have pending, this may take a while, so buckle up.

Alternatively, you can check whether a new update is available for a specific app by visiting its dedicated page in the Play Store. Simply use the search bar to look for that app and go to its page. If you see the green “Update” button, it means an update is available for the app. You can hit the button to update the app on the spot.

If you want to make sure only a particular app gets auto updated, simply tap the three dots in the upper-right corner of the display on the app page and select the “Enable auto update” option.

Frequently Asked Questions What do I do if my installed apps are not showing in the Play Store?

If you can’t see your installed apps, the first thing to try is restarting your phone. Alternatively, you may not have realized that Google has changed their locations. Previously, you could have accessed your apps by tapping on the three-bar icon in the Play Store. If it’s not there, tap on the profile icon at the top-right corner of the Play Store. Go to “Manage apps & devices.” From there you can switch between an “Overview” and “Manage.”

Can I uninstall updates for Google Play Store?

Yes, you can. While with a malfunctioning app you’d normally just uninstall by long-pressing on it before reinstalling it, with the Play Store things are a bit different, since this is a system app on your Android device. Follow the steps here to uninstall and reinstall the Google Play Store.

Wrapping Up

Updating your apps is one way to fix Android apps not working properly on your device. If you’re dealing with similar issues, read what other solutions you have at your disposal. Alternatively, learn how you can install apps on Android without the Google Play Store.

How To Update Bios On Dell

Updating the BIOS not only fixes bugs and errors in the system but also makes the motherboard compatible with newer hardware devices. So everyone should update their BIOS right?

Well, updating the BIOS on any motherboard or laptop is risky if you do not know the exact steps, especially if you are doing it for the first time.

Any errors/interruptions during a BIOS update could render the entire motherboard useless. The same goes for Dell laptops and motherboards. You need to follow each step carefully.

Warning: Ensure that the system does not suffer from power interruption during the BIOS update.

Suspend BitLocker Drive Encryption

If you are running Windows 10 or 11 with Windows edition Pro, Enterprise, or Education, you need to suspend BitLocker. Bitlocker encrypts files on a hard disk and decrypts them when the system starts.

BitLocker uses TPM (Trusted Platform Module) that is integrated into the motherboard to store its encryption keys. When you update BIOS, your system will not accept the BitLocker key. If this happens, you will not be able to Boot into your Windows after a BIOS update.

To avoid such a situation, we recommend you suspend BitLocker Drive Encryption before you start the BIOS update process.

Press Windows + I key to open Settings.

Wait for the system to suspend BitLocker.

Once you turn off BitLocker on all your drivers, you can now start updating the BIOS.

Warning: After the BIOS update is complete, the system may automatically turn on BitLocker. If you are gradually upgrading each version of BIOS, you will need to turn off BitLocker after every update.

Updating BIOS on Dell

To update your BIOS, you first need to download the BIOS update executable file from Dell’s official support page. Once you have the required executable file, simply run the file to start the BIOS update process.

Before updating your BIOS make sure you know the current version of your motherboard’s BIOS.

Check the Current BIOS version on a Dell

System Information contains information about all hardware components connected to your system. And this includes the data about the motherboard’s manufacturer, BIOS version, etc.

Press Windows + R key to open Run.

Also, note the BaseBoard Product and Version. You need this to compare to the latest available BIOS version

Download the Latest Available BIOS version

Once you have the current BIOS version, you need to search for the latest BIOS version released for your Dell laptop/motherboard.

Open your web browser.

Go to Dell’s official support page.

Scroll down and search for BIOS in the Category section.

Compare your system’s BIOS version and the latest BIOS version on Dell’s support page. If the latest BIOS version on Dell’s support page matches the BIOS version from System Information, it means that you already have the latest BIOS installed.

Note: If your current BIOS version is more than two versions behind the latest available BIOS update, we highly recommend that you update the BIOS version gradually without skipping over any other BIOS version. By doing this, you will avoid possible compatibility issues in your motherboard.

Install BIOS Update

Once the download process completes, it is now time to install the BIOS update

Go to your download location and run the downloaded BIOS update file.

Wait for the system to update the BIOS.

Again, if you are gradually updating the BIOS through different versions make sure you suspend BitLocker each time you complete the BIOS update.

Updating BIOS on Dell Using USB drive

You cannot perform a BIOS update using the above method if you cannot access the Operating System. In such a case, you need to update the BIOS using a bootable BIOS update USB flash drive.

Note: Since you cannot enter your OS, you need another PC to create a BIOS update bootable USB.

Install DDDP

To create a bootable USB that contains a BIOS update file, you need Dell’s official Dell Diagnostic Distribution Package (DDDP) Application.

Download DDDP from Dell’s official download website.

Once the installation completes, press Ctrl + E to open File Explorer.

Here, delete all files except,

Install the Diagnostic Package to a USB drive

Once you have deleted said files, plug in a blank USB drive in your computer and follow the steps below.

Navigate to C:DellDriversR174621 in File Explorer.

Select Install to a USB Flash Drive.

Download and Copy the BIOS Update File

Once you install the Diagnostic package to a USB drive, the USB drive size should sink to around 2GB.

Copy the BIOS update file to the bootable USB drive.

Install BIOS Update

Now that you have a bootable USB that contains the BIOS update file, you can install the update by booting the system using said USB drive. To boot the system using a USB drive, you need to select the boot device on your computer.

Under Legacy Boot, select USB Storage Device.

The system may display several confirmation messages. If it does, press Y and press Enter.

How To Update Your Bios & Uefi

However, these days, PC and laptop motherboards don’t have BIOS chips. Instead, they use a new system that goes by a new acronym: UEFI.

You can still run these in a legacy BIOS mode, but just about everyone, including motherboard manufacturers still refer to UEFI as “the BIOS”.

There are differences between how BIOS and UEFI work, but none of that is really important, because the process for updating it is largely the same.

And of course that’s why you’re here, because you want to update yours.

There are two standards of BIOS you need to be aware of. The traditional type is being phased out and replaced with newer UEFI chips, although PCs manufactured before 2007 may still have the older version. UEFI created a universal standard for all the major processor manufacturers, as well

But before we explain how to do it, an important warning.

If something goes wrong during the BIOS update, your PC or laptop could be rendered useless. If there’s a power cut, or the computer gets turned off while updating, it could mean that it’s unable to boot at all. It’s unlikely, but not out of the question.

Valid reasons for updating include adding support for a new processor that you plan to install, to fix a bug, performance issue or vulnerability, or to add new features that you want or need.

Assuming you still want to upgrade, here’s an overview of the process. It’s a good idea to check the exact procedure for your specific motherboard or laptop, as it can vary and, naturally, we can’t provide a guide for every single one of them.

If you’re the cautious type, it’s a good idea to make a backup of all important files from your PC before you start. Though a failed BIOS update doesn’t endanger the data on your hard drive directly, it is a pain to access them if the update goes wrong.

The chances, as we’ve said, are tiny. But it is a risk nonetheless.

How to identify the make and model of your motherboard

Your next step is likely to be figuring out which motherboard you have so you can download the correct file from the manufacturer’s website. It’s crucial you get the right one, and it’s probably a bad idea to obtain the file from anywhere other than the manufacturer’s site.

The full model name – such as MSI Z170A Gaming Pro – is usually found somewhere on the board itself. It’s important as there are usually subtly different versions, and each might have its own individual BIOS. Plus, you should note down the revision number – for example REV 1.03G as it may require a different BIOS file to previous revisions of the board.

If you’re updating a laptop, you need only to find the make and exact model of the laptop, and go to the manufacturer’s website.

One way to find out which motherboard you have, and which BIOS version is installed is to use the Windows System Information.

Hold down the Windows key+ R to bring up the Run command prompt and type msinfo32 into the box and press OK.

The System Information window will appear, similar to the one shown below. Under System Summary, look for BaseBoard Manufacturer, Product and BIOS Version/Date.

Sometimes, as in this case, the exact version isn’t shown, so you’d need to reboot and go into the BIOS itself to check the version.

You can also see under ‘BIOS Mode’ if your motherboard is set to Legacy or UEFI. Ideally, for modern machines, it should be UEFI.

Jim Martin / Foundry

Once you know exactly which BIOS file you need, and have downloaded the right file from the manufacturer’s website, it’s worth reading any instructions – contained in the download or on the manufacturer’s website itself – about the exact updating process for your BIOS. They do vary, and you may need to configure some things before starting the update process, such as disabling secure boot modes and fast boot modes.

Most of the time, you just need to extract the files from the zip file and copy them to a USB drive.

For many motherboards, you can’t update from Windows 10. You will need to reboot and enter the BIOS and search the menu for an option like “EZ Flash” “M Flash” or “Q Flash”. Just follow the on-screen instructions to select the BIOS file from your USB drive.

If you can’t access the BIOS, here are some extra tips, especially if your motherboard uses UEFI instead.

However, you may find that your motherboard or laptop manufacturer does offer a Windows app for updating the BIOS. Some laptop makers, including Dell, will even include BIOS updates in their main software updater utility, in which case you may just have to run that.

Follow the instructions in the app to update the BIOS. You might have to point it to the BIOS file you’ve downloaded already, or it might be able to get the latest version automatically from the internet.

The progress of the update should be shown, and once complete you may or may not have to reboot your PC for the changes to take effect.

Check BIOS settings

Once the flashing tool has successfully finished updating, you can restart your PC or laptop immediately and resume working with the new BIOS. However, we recommend checking some things first.

Apple Airtag Not Working? 10 Tips To Fix Airtag Issues

When it comes to tracking items efficiently, AirTag comes close to being a perfect item tracker as compared to alternatives like Galaxy SmartTag. No wonder many are calling it the gold standard for 21st-century luggage tracking. Now, without undermining the rave reviews, Apple’s item tracker has had a fair share of issues even during the early days. While some users have stated that Apple AirTags are not working at all, others have found the much-talked-about “Precision Finding” inconsistent. Irrespective of what sort of problems have come your way, try out these 10 pro tips if your AirTag is not working or connecting to your iPhone.

AirTag Not Working or Connecting to iPhone? Try out These Fixes!

So, what could be causing the AirTag to misbehave? There could be more than one culprit behind the problem. Though network-related issues might be the wrecker-in-chief, you should never overlook a faulty battery as a possible concern. Besides, the incorrect setup may also be equally responsible. Therefore, we will look into all the possible causes and try the best AirTag tips and tricks accordingly.

1. Make Sure Two-Factor Authentication is Enabled

For AirTags to connect to your iPhone/ iPad, you must have two-factor authentication enabled. So, make sure to turn on 2FA on your iOS or iPadOS device if it isn’t already.

2. Make Sure You Aren’t Using Managed Apple ID

Apple clearly states that if your iOS/ iPadOS device is using Managed Apple ID, you can’t set up an AirTag. So, if an AirTag is not connecting to your iPad or iPhone, be sure your device complies with this requirement.

For those unfamiliar, schools or colleges can create Managed Apple IDs for students to facilitate education. They are unique to each organization and separate from your standard Apple ID. To find out more about Managed Apple IDs and how they work, head over to the Apple Support page.

3. Ensure That Find My is Enabled

4. Turn Off/ On Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Cellular Network

Go to the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad. Then, go to the Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Mobile Data sections one after the other. Turn off the toggles for Wi-Fi, cellular, and Bluetooth, and restart your device.

To restart iPhone and iPad with Face ID: Press and hold the volume up/ down button and power button at once. Then, drag the power-off slider to shut down your device. After that, press and hold the power button to reboot the device.

To restart iPhone and iPad with Touch ID: Press the power button and then drag the power-off slider to turn off your device. Now, hold down the power button to restart the device.

After your device has restarted, head over to the Settings app and turn on the Wi-Fi, mobile data, and Bluetooth toggles once again.

5. Turn Off/ On Location Services 6. AirTag Precision Finding Not Working? Try out These Fixes!

As the name suggests, Precision Finding lets you accurately determine the distance and direction of a misplaced AirTag when it is in the range. It uses the U1 chip, present in AirTags and the latest iPhone 12 and iPhone 11 models, to precisely locate and communicate with each other.

Unfortunately, ultra-wideband technology is restricted in some countries and regions. Thus, if Apple AirTag Precision Finding is not working on your iPhone 12 or iPhone 11, make sure that the technology is not blocked in your country or region.

7. Reset Network Settings

For the AirTag to work as expected, Wi-Fi, cellular data, and Bluetooth must function properly. If they are facing issues, the item tracker will have a hard time connecting or working as intended. So, if you are still struggling to fix the AirTag not working issue, try resetting the network settings.

Navigate to the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad and tap on General. Now, scroll down to the bottom and choose Reset. Next, tap Reset Network Settings. After that, enter your device passcode and hit Reset Network Settings again. That should fix any miscellaneous network-related issues, which in turn could help fix issues with AirTag not working or connecting to your device.

8. Factory Reset AirTag

If none of the solutions above help fix the problem, it’s time to factory reset the AirTag. Since it has helped several users fix common AirTag issues, including the signal is weak, Precision Finding not working, and other connectivity issues, the chances are it could do the trick for you.

To reset an AirTag, you need to remove it from the Find My app. So open the Find My app and go to the ‘Items’ tab. After that, choose the AirTag you want to reset. Then, swipe up to access AirTag settings and tap on the ‘Remove item’ option at the bottom. Finally, confirm your action by tapping on ‘Remove’ again.

Once you have successfully reset AirTag, reconnect it to your iPhone or iPad. Just hold the AirTag near your device and tap the ‘Connect’ button that pops up on the screen. If you have multiple AirTags and see the “More than one AirTag detected” message, ensure that only one AirTag is near your device at a time.

9. Remove and Replace Your AirTag’s Battery

If your AirTag still misbehaves, remove and replace the battery. The user-replaceable CR2032 battery might be at fault. So, try changing it to see if it sorts out the issue.

To do so, pull out the AirTag from its case/ accessory, and press down the stainless steel back of the AirTag with two fingers. While still pressing down, make sure to rotate counterclockwise until the cover stops rotating. Next, pull apart the two halves of the AirTag. Then, remove the old battery and place the new one. Here are a few links to the best CR2032 battery for AirTag on Amazon:

10. Update Software on Your iPhone and iPad Viable Tips and Tricks to Fix AirTag Not Working Issue

Well, that’s pretty much it! Hopefully, your AirTag has once again started to work normally. As I said above, network-related problems are usually the prime suspects, so fixing them resolves the most common AirTag issues. Besides, a factory reset is also quite reliable in sorting out the problem if your AirTag is not working or connecting to your iPhone.

Unfortunately, if you’re living in Europe, you might not have the ability to update messaging on Instagram.

First of all, you need to check if you have the Messenger update.

To do so, go to your Instagram profile and tap on the menu icon.

After you’ve tapped on the menu icon, tap on “Settings” to go to your settings.
