Updating the BIOS not only fixes bugs and errors in the system but also makes the motherboard compatible with newer hardware devices. So everyone should update their BIOS right?

Well, updating the BIOS on any motherboard or laptop is risky if you do not know the exact steps, especially if you are doing it for the first time.

Any errors/interruptions during a BIOS update could render the entire motherboard useless. The same goes for Dell laptops and motherboards. You need to follow each step carefully.

Warning: Ensure that the system does not suffer from power interruption during the BIOS update.

Suspend BitLocker Drive Encryption

If you are running Windows 10 or 11 with Windows edition Pro, Enterprise, or Education, you need to suspend BitLocker. Bitlocker encrypts files on a hard disk and decrypts them when the system starts.

BitLocker uses TPM (Trusted Platform Module) that is integrated into the motherboard to store its encryption keys. When you update BIOS, your system will not accept the BitLocker key. If this happens, you will not be able to Boot into your Windows after a BIOS update.

To avoid such a situation, we recommend you suspend BitLocker Drive Encryption before you start the BIOS update process.

Press Windows + I key to open Settings.

Wait for the system to suspend BitLocker.

Once you turn off BitLocker on all your drivers, you can now start updating the BIOS.

Warning: After the BIOS update is complete, the system may automatically turn on BitLocker. If you are gradually upgrading each version of BIOS, you will need to turn off BitLocker after every update.

    Updating BIOS on Dell

To update your BIOS, you first need to download the BIOS update executable file from Dell’s official support page. Once you have the required executable file, simply run the file to start the BIOS update process.

Before updating your BIOS make sure you know the current version of your motherboard’s BIOS.

Check the Current BIOS version on a Dell

System Information contains information about all hardware components connected to your system. And this includes the data about the motherboard’s manufacturer, BIOS version, etc.

Press Windows + R key to open Run.

Also, note the BaseBoard Product and Version. You need this to compare to the latest available BIOS version

Download the Latest Available BIOS version

Once you have the current BIOS version, you need to search for the latest BIOS version released for your Dell laptop/motherboard.

        Open your web browser.

Go to Dell’s official support page.

Scroll down and search for BIOS in the Category section.

Compare your system’s BIOS version and the latest BIOS version on Dell’s support page. If the latest BIOS version on Dell’s support page matches the BIOS version from System Information, it means that you already have the latest BIOS installed.

Note: If your current BIOS version is more than two versions behind the latest available BIOS update, we highly recommend that you update the BIOS version gradually without skipping over any other BIOS version. By doing this, you will avoid possible compatibility issues in your motherboard.

          Install BIOS Update

Once the download process completes, it is now time to install the BIOS update

Go to your download location and run the downloaded BIOS update file.

Wait for the system to update the BIOS.

Again, if you are gradually updating the BIOS through different versions make sure you suspend BitLocker each time you complete the BIOS update.

Updating BIOS on Dell Using USB drive

You cannot perform a BIOS update using the above method if you cannot access the Operating System. In such a case, you need to update the BIOS using a bootable BIOS update USB flash drive.

Note: Since you cannot enter your OS, you need another PC to create a BIOS update bootable USB.

            Install DDDP

To create a bootable USB that contains a BIOS update file, you need Dell’s official Dell Diagnostic Distribution Package (DDDP) Application.

Download DDDP from Dell’s official download website.

Once the installation completes, press Ctrl + E to open File Explorer.

              Here, delete all files except,

Install the Diagnostic Package to a USB drive

Once you have deleted said files, plug in a blank USB drive in your computer and follow the steps below.

Navigate to C:DellDriversR174621 in File Explorer.

Select Install to a USB Flash Drive.

Download and Copy the BIOS Update File

Once you install the Diagnostic package to a USB drive, the USB drive size should sink to around 2GB.

Copy the BIOS update file to the bootable USB drive.

                    Install BIOS Update

Now that you have a bootable USB that contains the BIOS update file, you can install the update by booting the system using said USB drive. To boot the system using a USB drive, you need to select the boot device on your computer.

Under Legacy Boot, select USB Storage Device.

The system may display several confirmation messages. If it does, press Y and press Enter.

How To Update Motherboard Bios Without Cpu

If you’re building a new PC and your motherboard won’t boot, you might need to update the BIOS. Most motherboards offer USB BIOS flashback, thus updating motherboard BIOS without a CPU takes only a few minutes.

Although there is no need for a CPU, you must have the EPS power connector and a formatted FAT32 USB drive of at least 8GB to achieve these results.

To update motherboard BIOS without CPU, go to your motherboard manufacturer’s website and download the latest BIOS version.  Extract the bios file to the formatted FAT32 USB stick and rename it as instructed by the manufacturer; as a .bin / .cap  bios file. Insert the flash drive to the EZ Flash Utility inside the BIOS, connect to the power and press the BIOS button.

When the BIOS Flashback Button is pressed, the LED light blinks until the BIOS is fully updated. This works well for motherboards with the USB BIOS Flashback feature. Once the light stops, the motherboard BIOS is updated without a CPU. At this point, you can remove the flash drive and turn off the power.

I will take you through the step-by-step process of updating motherboard BIOS without CPU, including how to check your BIOS version. Also, stick around for the dos and donts. You don’t want to brick your motherboard while updating the BIOS.

The Do’s and Dont’s When Updating Your Motherboard

Although USB BIOS Flashback seems easy, there are things to consider when updating a motherboard BIOS without a CPU.  Here are the do’s and don’ts.

Why Should You Update a Motherboard BIOS?

Note that BIOS updates do not add any new features to your PC. Improper handling can result in additional problems. Thus, it is essential to know when and how to do it safely.

Several reasons may compel you to update a motherboard BIOS.

If the mobo does not support a new processor

If new hardware is not adequately supported

                      To fix bugs

To correct a corrupted UEFI environment

                      To improve your PCs stability

The steps for updating BIOS without a CPU will work for popular motherboards, including Asus, Gigabyte, MSI, or ASRock.

Note that the different manufacturers have various names for the usb BIOS flashback port used to update the motherboard. Gigabyte calls it Q-Flash Plus; Asus calls it USB BIOS Flashback; MSI refers to it as Flash BIOS Button. In ASRock motherboards, the feature is referred to as BIOS Flashback Button.

How to Check Your Current BIOS Version

Before any updates, checking the version of your motherboard BIOS is critical. Using the wrong BIOS can render your motherboard partially or entirely useless.

To check your BIOS version on Windows 8 or 10

Alternatively, you can find the motherboard version by restarting your computer and pressing the F2, F10, F12, or Del buttons until the BIOS menu appears. From the menu, navigate to BIOS Revision or BIOS Version or Firmware Version. This largely depends on your system configuration.

However, since our motherboard is not connected to a CPU, the simplest way to check for the BIOS version is by looking at the motherboard hardware. Written on it are your motherboard model, version, and manufacturer.

With that information, you can now go ahead and update the motherboard.

                      How to Update Motherboard

When you buy a new B550 or X570 motherboard, there is probably a more recent BIOS version available than the one installed. Although this is not a problem, it is easier to update your motherboard BIOS if you choose to.

Remember that interrupting the BIOS update process can brick your motherboard and render it useless.

Let’s look at how to update the motherboard without a CPU installed

                      Installing BIOS Without Display

if you finish building your PC and fail to get video output, you should update the BIOS to support the processor without the display. It should be pretty much the same as updating BIOS without a CPU or RAM.

Installing BIOS without display will depend squarely on the type of processor in your build. For example, you need the 8th or 9th generation Intel CPU if you are running Intel i5-9600k.

                      If you are not on an Intel processor, consider the following steps;

Copy the BIOS to a cd using a separate system.

Place the cd on your PC

                      Turn on the PC

If you had an incompatible CPU, updating the motherboard BIOS using a cd should work for you.

If that fails to work, consider visiting a local PC shop. Similarly, you can order a BIOS chip from Amazon or eBay and replace the one in your motherboard.

Unless you have a good reason to update your motherboard BIOS, refrain from it. If care is not taken, the updates can go wrong. For instance, interfering with the power when the update is ongoing will probably brick your motherboard.

All in all, you can use the BIOS flashback feature to update the motherboard without a CPU. The process is not only easy but also quick.

How To Update Your Bios & Uefi

However, these days, PC and laptop motherboards don’t have BIOS chips. Instead, they use a new system that goes by a new acronym: UEFI.

You can still run these in a legacy BIOS mode, but just about everyone, including motherboard manufacturers still refer to UEFI as “the BIOS”.

There are differences between how BIOS and UEFI work, but none of that is really important, because the process for updating it is largely the same.

And of course that’s why you’re here, because you want to update yours.

There are two standards of BIOS you need to be aware of. The traditional type is being phased out and replaced with newer UEFI chips, although PCs manufactured before 2007 may still have the older version. UEFI created a universal standard for all the major processor manufacturers, as well

But before we explain how to do it, an important warning.

If something goes wrong during the BIOS update, your PC or laptop could be rendered useless. If there’s a power cut, or the computer gets turned off while updating, it could mean that it’s unable to boot at all. It’s unlikely, but not out of the question.

Valid reasons for updating include adding support for a new processor that you plan to install, to fix a bug, performance issue or vulnerability, or to add new features that you want or need.

Assuming you still want to upgrade, here’s an overview of the process. It’s a good idea to check the exact procedure for your specific motherboard or laptop, as it can vary and, naturally, we can’t provide a guide for every single one of them.

If you’re the cautious type, it’s a good idea to make a backup of all important files from your PC before you start. Though a failed BIOS update doesn’t endanger the data on your hard drive directly, it is a pain to access them if the update goes wrong.

The chances, as we’ve said, are tiny. But it is a risk nonetheless.

How to identify the make and model of your motherboard

Your next step is likely to be figuring out which motherboard you have so you can download the correct file from the manufacturer’s website. It’s crucial you get the right one, and it’s probably a bad idea to obtain the file from anywhere other than the manufacturer’s site.

The full model name – such as MSI Z170A Gaming Pro – is usually found somewhere on the board itself. It’s important as there are usually subtly different versions, and each might have its own individual BIOS. Plus, you should note down the revision number – for example REV 1.03G as it may require a different BIOS file to previous revisions of the board.

If you’re updating a laptop, you need only to find the make and exact model of the laptop, and go to the manufacturer’s website.

One way to find out which motherboard you have, and which BIOS version is installed is to use the Windows System Information.

Hold down the Windows key+ R to bring up the Run command prompt and type msinfo32 into the box and press OK.

The System Information window will appear, similar to the one shown below. Under System Summary, look for BaseBoard Manufacturer, Product and BIOS Version/Date.

Sometimes, as in this case, the exact version isn’t shown, so you’d need to reboot and go into the BIOS itself to check the version.

You can also see under ‘BIOS Mode’ if your motherboard is set to Legacy or UEFI. Ideally, for modern machines, it should be UEFI.

                      Jim Martin / Foundry

Once you know exactly which BIOS file you need, and have downloaded the right file from the manufacturer’s website, it’s worth reading any instructions – contained in the download or on the manufacturer’s website itself – about the exact updating process for your BIOS. They do vary, and you may need to configure some things before starting the update process, such as disabling secure boot modes and fast boot modes.

Most of the time, you just need to extract the files from the zip file and copy them to a USB drive.

For many motherboards, you can’t update from Windows 10. You will need to reboot and enter the BIOS and search the menu for an option like “EZ Flash” “M Flash” or “Q Flash”. Just follow the on-screen instructions to select the BIOS file from your USB drive.

If you can’t access the BIOS, here are some extra tips, especially if your motherboard uses UEFI instead.

However, you may find that your motherboard or laptop manufacturer does offer a Windows app for updating the BIOS. Some laptop makers, including Dell, will even include BIOS updates in their main software updater utility, in which case you may just have to run that.

Follow the instructions in the app to update the BIOS. You might have to point it to the BIOS file you’ve downloaded already, or it might be able to get the latest version automatically from the internet.

The progress of the update should be shown, and once complete you may or may not have to reboot your PC for the changes to take effect.

                      Check BIOS settings

Once the flashing tool has successfully finished updating, you can restart your PC or laptop immediately and resume working with the new BIOS. However, we recommend checking some things first.

How To Update Your Apps On Android

Apps on your Android routinely receive updates pushed by the apps’ developers to improve their functionalities. They often bring stability and performance improvements as well as security updates. By default, Android apps will update themselves automatically, but many users don’t know they can exert a level of control regarding when and how this process unfolds. To that end, this article looks at how to update your apps on Android automatically to gain that control.

With apps automatically updating, you won’t have to waste time checking to see whether a new version of a certain app is available. This option should be on by default, but if you want to check to be sure your Android apps update automatically, these steps show how to do so.

Open the Play Store app on your Android device.

Locate the search bar on top and tap on your profile icon on the right.

                      Select Settings.

Go to “Auto-update apps” and select one of the three options available. Our recommendation is to choose “Over Wi-Fi only” so that the apps update only when you’re connected to a Wi-Fi network. Alternatively, you can opt for “Over any network,” but keep in mind that data charges may apply in this case. If you’re traveling, we suggest you abstain from updating over any network to avoid overcharging your bill.

The third option is “Don’t auto-update apps.” Select this if you’re looking to update your apps manually.

Updating your apps manually is the better way to go about things for several reasons. First off, you get to choose when and where you update your apps. Secondly, you may not feel the need to perform the updates all at once, so you can just go ahead and update the one app you need to use at that time.

To learn how to update your Android apps manually, follow the steps outlined above, then select the “Don’t auto-update apps” option. Next, check which apps need updating.

In the Google Play Store app, tap on your profile picture again.

                      Select “Manage apps and device.”

Tap on the “Updates available” option to see details regarding the apps.

From here you can update each app manually by pressing the Update button.

Alternatively, you can use the “Update all” button and update all apps in one go. Depending on how many apps you have pending, this may take a while, so buckle up.

Alternatively, you can check whether a new update is available for a specific app by visiting its dedicated page in the Play Store. Simply use the search bar to look for that app and go to its page. If you see the green “Update” button, it means an update is available for the app. You can hit the button to update the app on the spot.

If you want to make sure only a particular app gets auto updated, simply tap the three dots in the upper-right corner of the display on the app page and select the “Enable auto update” option.

Frequently Asked Questions What do I do if my installed apps are not showing in the Play Store?

If you can’t see your installed apps, the first thing to try is restarting your phone. Alternatively, you may not have realized that Google has changed their locations. Previously, you could have accessed your apps by tapping on the three-bar icon in the Play Store. If it’s not there, tap on the profile icon at the top-right corner of the Play Store. Go to “Manage apps & devices.” From there you can switch between an “Overview” and “Manage.”

Can I uninstall updates for Google Play Store?

Yes, you can. While with a malfunctioning app you’d normally just uninstall by long-pressing on it before reinstalling it, with the Play Store things are a bit different, since this is a system app on your Android device. Follow the steps here to uninstall and reinstall the Google Play Store.

                      Wrapping Up

Updating your apps is one way to fix Android apps not working properly on your device. If you’re dealing with similar issues, read what other solutions you have at your disposal. Alternatively, learn how you can install apps on Android without the Google Play Store.

How To Update The Software On Your Airtag

Learn how to update your AirTag to the most recent firmware in order to get the latest features and fixes, plus how to check its firmware version and see what’s new.

Non-Apple accessories from other companies that support Apple’s Find My network can be managed through the Find My app on your iPhone, iPad and Mac. This includes being able to manually update the software powering a compatible third-party device by selecting it underneath the Find My app’s “Items” tab. If there’s new software available, you’ll see an “Update Available” button. Tapping it forces a manual update outside of the regular schedule for automatic updates (if you don’t see the button, then the item is up to date). Strangely enough, the AirTag does not support downloading and installing firmware updates through the Find My app.

AirTag software updates are downloaded and installed automatically by the iOS operating system when the following conditions are met:

Your AirTag is in the Bluetooth range of its connected iPhone

The connected iPhone is running iOS 14.5 or later

There’s no way to manually force an update of the software powering your AirTag, and Apple spells it out in black and white. “Firmware updates are delivered periodically while your AirTag is in Bluetooth range of your iPhone,” Apple notes.

How to check the AirTag firmware version

You can check the current version of your AirTag’s firmware, as well as check out its serial number, by hitting its battery icon in the Find My app.

Open the Find My app on your iPhone, iPad or Mac.

In the Find My app hit the “Items” tab at the bottom.

Choose the AirTag you want to see more details about.

Now touch the tiny battery icon below your AirTag’s location.

Doing so will reveal the AirTag’s current firmware version and serial number.

How to see what’s new in AirTag firmware

There is no outward-facing software update mechanism for AirTag updates. As we said, the AirTag firmware is delivered completely autonomously. You won’t see any message to confirm that your AirTag has been updated nor will you be presented with the changelog. But that doesn’t mean Apple won’t let you see official release notes for AirTag updates—simply visit Apple’s support document covering all the changes, fixes and new features that are included in AirTag software updates. How To Fix Messenger Update Not Showing On Instagram

Is the Instagram Messenger update not showing or working for you?

The Messenger update was introduced to Instagram in September 2023.

The update comes with many features—vanish mode, chat colors, replies, and more.

You can also add custom emoji reactions to messages.

The Messenger update will be automatically available to you via your settings.

When you navigate to your settings, you should be able to see the “Update Messaging” feature.

If you don’t, read on to find out why the Instagram Messenger update is not showing or working for you and how to fix it.

Why don’t I have the Instagram Messenger update?

You don’t have the Instagram Messenger update because it’s not available in your country yet.

According to Instagram, the feature may be unavailable for countries located in Europe.

Unfortunately, if you’re living in Europe, you might not have the ability to update messaging on Instagram.

First of all, you need to check if you have the Messenger update.

To do so, go to your Instagram profile and tap on the menu icon.

After you’ve tapped on the menu icon, tap on “Settings” to go to your settings.

Now, you should be able to see an “Update Messaging” option.

If you don’t, it means that the feature is unavailable in your country.

Another reason why you don’t have the Instagram Messenger update is that you didn’t update the Instagram app.

To do so, go to the App Store or Google Play Store and update Instagram to the latest version.

Alternatively, you can uninstall and reinstall Instagram.

How to fix Messenger update not showing on Instagram

To fix the Messenger update not showing on Instagram, you need to wait until the update is released to you.

Alternatively, you can try updating Instagram to the latest version.

The Messenger update is not available in certain countries in Europe.

Hence, if you’re living in Europe and you don’t have the update, it means that it’s not been released in your country yet.

If that’s the case, updating Instagram will not fix the Messenger update.

Instead, you need to wait for Instagram to roll the update in your country.

If you’re not living in Europe and you don’t have the Messenger update, you need to try updating Instagram.

After you’ve updated Instagram, go to your settings and the “Update Messaging” option should appear.

If it doesn’t, you might be experiencing a bug/glitch.

Some users claimed that they managed to get the Messenger update simply by waiting.

                      1. Wait until the update is released to you

The first method to fix the Instagram Messenger update from not showing is to wait until the update is released to you.

The Messenger update is not available in every country yet.

According to Instagram, the update is not available in certain countries in Europe.

Hence, if you live in Europe, you might not be able to update the Messaging feature on Instagram yet.

Your best bet is to wait until the update is rolled out to you.

Some users managed to get the Messenger update simply by waiting it out.

                      2. Update Instagram to the latest version

If you haven’t updated Instagram, you need to do so now.

Updating Instagram can fix the Messenger update from not showing or working.

This is because the new update might have introduced the Messenger update to more countries.

Go to the App Store and Google Play Store, search for Instagram, and update it if there’s an update.

After you’ve updated Instagram, check if you have the “Update Messaging” feature.

The “Update Messaging” feature should be located at the top of the page.

If it isn’t, it either means that it’s not available in your country yet or it’s due to a bug/glitch.

How do I get the new Messenger update on Instagram?

                      Go to your Instagram profile.

                      Tap on the menu icon.

                      Tap on “Settings”.

                      Select “Update Messaging”.

                      Tap on “Update”.

After you’ve tapped on “Update”, the messaging feature on Instagram will be updated.

You can now reply to messages, add emoji reactions, control your messages, and more.

If you don’t see the “Update Messaging” feature, it means that it’s not available in your country yet.

Instagram is slowly releasing the feature to every country.

Currently, it’s not known when the Messenging update will be released to all countries.

Hence, you need to remain patient and wait until it’s released to you.

There’s nothing much you can do on your end to fix the issue other than using another Instagram account or a VPN.

There are a couple of bonus methods that you can try to get the Messenger update to show.

Firstly, you can try using another Instagram account.

There are multiple users that reported that they managed to get the Messenger update by using another Instagram account.

This might be due to a bug/glitch on the app.

Secondly, you can try using a VPN and connect to another country.

To do so, you need to download a free VPN app on the App Store or Google Play Store.

After you’ve downloaded a free VPN app, you need to connect to a country where the Messenger update is available.

You can connect to the United States, United Kingdom, India, and more.

However, you need to avoid connecting to Europe because certain countries in Europe do not have the Messenger update.

Once you’re connected to a VPN, force close the Instagram app, re-open it, and check if you have the Messenger update.
