Suggested March 2024 How To Make Your Gmail Work And Look Like Google Inbox

On April 2, 2023, Google ceased support of Inbox for Gmail. If you don’t know what it is, Google developed it as an experimental Gmail with some great features. It acted as a testing ground to see what people wanted from their email clients. Inbox worked well, offering people a new way to interact with Gmail and get some new features put into the main Gmail client.

Inbox worked so well, in fact, that a lot of features (but not all) were eventually put into Gmail, after which the appeal of Inbox for Gmail waned for Google. In September 2023 Google announced they were shutting it down, with the actual closure happening in April. Despite being an experimental Gmail, people missed Inbox for Gmail, as it had a clean UI and had some features not yet put into the main Gmail branch.

While you can’t get Inbox back as it was, you can still turn your regular Gmail into an Inbox simulacrum that tries to replicate the base Inbox experience as closely as possible.

How to Get Your Gmail to Look Like Inbox

The best way to do this is to install the Inbox Theme for Gmail extension. Unfortunately, it’s not a silver bullet solution, as it only supports Chrome at the moment and is only an aesthetic update. It doesn’t replicate the lost features from Inbox, just makes it look like it. However, at the time of writing, it’s honestly the best way you can get regular Gmail to look like Inbox.

As you can see from the movie on the main page, it does a good job of recapturing the look and feel of Inbox. It’s also very easy to install; just grab it like a regular extension, then reload Gmail to see the change instantly. Hopefully, as time goes on, we’ll see more of Inbox’s missing features implemented via extensions.

A Similar Alternative

While you’re in the market for a more Inbox-styled Gmail, why not take a peek at what a past Inbox developer worked on?

What About the Features?

Unfortunately, for now Inbox features such as the Bundles don’t seem to have an addon to add it back in. It’s best to think about the kind of features you liked in Inbox and try to replicate them in Gmail somehow. If you really can’t, consider shopping around for a new mail provider that offers a similar, if not identical, feature to the one you want.

Getting in with Inbox

While Inbox for Gmail is no longer, you can edit your regular Gmail to look more like Inbox. It’s not perfect, and it’s missing a lot of the neat features that came with Inbox, but it’s perfect for those who liked the more simplistic look.

What feature of Inbox do you miss most in Gmail? Let us know below.

How to bring Windows 8 icons back to Windows 10

To change your icons to Windows 8 style, you’ll first have to download Windows 8 icons pack, provided by WinAero. Extract the .rar folder to the location on your computer where you want to store your Windows 8 icons. After you download the icons, we can get to work.

Step 1: Replace Windows 10 Desktop icons with Windows 8 Desktop icons

In Desktop Icon Settings, change all the icons you want to the ones you previously downloaded

Step 2: Replace Windows 10 folder icons with Windows 8 folder icons

You can get the old folder icons simply by performing a couple of tasks in the Registry Editor. Here’s what you should do:

Go to Search, type regedit, and open Registry Editor

Go to the following Registry key:

Create a new subkey and name it Shell Icons (but there’s a possibility that you already have this key in your Registry)

Create new string values named 3 and 4. Set the value data of both values to the following value:

Now create the c:Icons folder and move the chúng tôi file that you extracted from the ZIP archive there

Restart the computer.

Step 3: Replace Windows 10 icons for user profile with Windows 8 icons

Here is how you can change icons for folders in your user profile:

Open the “Contacts” folder ( which is probably on this address: C:UsersYour user nameContacts)

In the address bar of File Explorer add chúng tôi to the end of the current folder path and press Enter (For example, C:UsersYour user nameContactsdesktop.ini)

The Notepad document will be opened. Find the line starting with “IconResource” and add a semicolon before the IconResource word

Add a new line to the end of the file (For example, IconResource=C:UsersWinaeroDesktopIcon4sContacts.ico)

Save the file and close Notepad

Close your User Profile, and open it again to see the changes

Step 4: Fix large icons problem

You might have a problem with large icons in your File Explorer. To resolve this issue, do the following:

Press Win + R on the keyboard

Type the following in the Run box and press Enter:

Untick Show thumbnails instead of icons

Press Apply

That would be all, you’ll now have your old icons from Windows 8 in Windows 10, and you won’t have to look at ‘ugly’ Windows 10’s icons all the time.

How To Make Photos Look Soft And Dreamy In Lightroom

How To Make Photos Look Soft In Lightroom

You’ve probably seen a dreamy-looking photo with glowing highlights and thought, “how the heck did they shoot that?” I want to let you in on a little secret… it’s all done with photo editing! With the amazingly simple techniques outlined in this post, you’ll discover exactly how to make a photo look soft and dreamy in Lightroom.

To give your photos a soft and dreamy look, use the Texture, Clarity, and Dehaze sliders in Lightroom. Found within the Basic Tab of the Develop Module, these sliders work to reduce edge contrast and give your photo a glowing appearance.

No matter what camera settings you used, the steps outlined here allow you to add a dreamy look quickly. This effect is a ton of fun to create and helps make your images look larger than life.

Here’s how it’s done.

How To Edit Dreamy Photos In Lightroom

For this Lightroom tutorial, I’ll be using selective adjustments to isolate where the softening takes place. You can apply this effect to an entire image but be warned that it will significantly reduce certain details.

To give you an example, the softening needed to lighten someone’s skin versus the background will be very different. If you go overboard and apply a heavy softening look to your subjects, it can take away details in their face or clothing.

That’s why I prefer to use this effect with selective adjustments such as the Gradient Filter, Radial Filter, Or Adjustment Brush.

If you want this dreamy effect to appear everywhere on your image, then skip step number 1!

Step 1: Create A Selective Adjustment

There are several ways you can create spot adjustments in Lightroom. If you want to learn about each of them more in-depth, check out this tutorial about masking in Lightroom.

For this example, I want to add a dreamy look to the background of the photo. Since I don’t want to affect the subjects, the adjustment brush will be the best tool for the job.

With the adjustment brush selected, scroll down to the brush settings and set the Feather, Flow, and Density to 100%.

If you’re using the adjustment brush (and not the gradient or radial filter), check off Auto Mask as well.

These settings will help make your brush adjustments more visible while still blending into the photo’s surrounding areas!

– Defining The Adjustment Area

To make life easier, press O on the keyboard to make the mask visible. Anything red will be affected by your adjustments later on.

Continue to paint around your image until everything you want is selected (aka red). Since I only want to edit the background, I’ll make sure my entire background is red (selected).

Press O again to hide your masking area.

Step 2: Decrease The Texture

Now for the fun part, making your photo look dreamy! The first slider for the job is the Texture adjustment.

Decrease the texture until you’re happy with the effect it gives. The further you go, the softer your photo will start to look.

As you decrease your slider, you’re essentially reducing the amount of edge contrast in your photo. With less edge contrast, things become less defined, therefore making it look soft in the photo.

Step 3: Decrease The Clarity

Next up is the Clarity slider. Drag this slider down to further add to the dreamy look of your photo.

Step 4: Lower The Dehaze Value

Lastly comes the Dehaze slider. By dragging this adjustment down, it flattens out the darks and highlights in your photo and improves that dreamy look.

Play around with this adjustment to see what setting value you need for your image.

Step 5: Increase The Contrast Slider

Now you have a nice soft and dreamy-looking photo. The only problem is that it might look a little bit flat. To help spice things up, add back some contrast with the contrast slider.

By adding more contrast, you help accentuate the highlights in your image. This ultimately makes anything such as sunlight, waterfalls, or sky pop a lot more in your photo and improve the edit.

The Result

With 5 simple steps and the help of 4 sliders, you’ve successfully made your photo look soft and dreamy in Lightroom! These three sliders work to blend edge contrast and change how certain details are displayed. Especially for waterfalls or golden hour photos, this effect is amazing.

Get 10 Soft & Dreamy Presets For Lightroom

If you’re looking for a faster way of doing things, then these Soft & Dreamy presets for Lightroom are a must.

To make life easier, they come in various intensities so that you can add a subtle or in-your-face effect. With general glows that target your entire photo to spot adjustments that affect select locations, you’re left with everything you need for this effect.

So now you know the keys to success for making dreamy and soft photos in Lightroom. If you’re ready to experiment with some other great Lightroom effects, try the Orange And Teal Look or Brown Earthy Tones in your edits!

I love to use this effect for photos as a final touch to my edit. I think it helps to make parts of your image pop or make busy areas appear less distracting. This style of edit looks excellent in landscape or portrait photography, especially mixed with vibrant colors!

Happy Editing!

Brendan 🙂

Google Fax: Send And Receive Faxes From Gmail, Google Docs, Sheets, Drive

Faxing might sound like an outdated means of communication or sharing documents, but it is still as respected as it used to be. While there are myriad options for sharing documents today, including emails and instant messaging applications, faxing remains as crucial as ever.

Why? Mainly because the security and confidentiality it affords its users is unrivaled by any other means of business communication. Government institutions and specific sectors like Healthcare still rely a lot on faxes due to safety concerns.

Eons ago, you were limited to large, noisy machines to send faxes. However, communication technology has turned a corner in the recent past, exposing us to more improved methods. Now it’s possible to send fax online using any of Google’s services, including Google Drive, Gmail, Docs, and Sheets.

How to Fax from Gmail, Google Drive, Docs, and Sheets?

Google is one of the most widely used services today. Their services are so intertwined with the daily lives that we can barely do without them. Isn’t it surprising to know that you can also fax documents using Google’s Gmail, Google Drive, Docs, and Sheet? Convenient because faxing technology is now integrated with our everyday Google applications.

How Does Faxing via Gmail Work?

By default, Gmail does not – in itself -support sending and receiving faxes, a system different from how fax machines work.

Yet online fax services act as a translation media between the two, translating analog telephonic signals to digital signals that electronic mail can better relate. The user only needs a fax number to start faxing with his or her Gmail account.

Through free fax services like CocoFax, the user can obtain a Google fax number to fax documents nationally or internationally.

Sending a Fax Through Gmail

Sending a fax from Gmail via CocoFax and other online fax services should be a walk in the park if you this step-by-step guide through and through.

Step 1. First things first, visit the official website of the online fax service you choose to work with. For this guide, we will be citing CocoFax as our example. Visit chúng tôi and create an account on the platform using your Gmail account. As a plus, you will be allowed to use the service for free for the first 30 days of use. Also, you are allowed to select your fax number yourself.

Step 2. After completing the registration process, log in to your Gmail account and select the ‘Compose’ tab as you would ordinarily do when sending a regular mail to another party.

Step 3. Proceed to fill in all the required details. Fill the ‘To’ field with the recipient’s fax number and add the [email protected] For instance, if you fax some documents to another party with the fax number 45678, you should fill the ‘To’ field with [email protected].

Should you choose to write a title for the fax, write this note in the ‘Subject’ field. You can also introduce a cover page in your fax by filling the body field of the email. The contents of this page appear on the first page of your fax.

Receiving Fax Through Gmail

Using a responsive faxing service like CocoFax, receiving fax via Gmail, is relatively more straightforward and easier than sending one. After signing up with the fax service, you get all faxes addressed to you in the Gmail account’s inbox linked to your CocoFax account. To keep you abreast of things, the fax service also sends you a mail to inform you about an incoming email. The received fax will usually reflect in the email like a regular attachment. All attachments are in PDF format.

How to Fax From Google Drive, Doc, and Sheets

The following is a step-by-step guide on faxing a Google Doc or sheet stored on your Google Drive account.

This process may need the help of online fax services, which should provide an add-on you can integrate into your Google Docs or Sheets applications. Using this service, users can fax documents directly through Google Drive in a few simple steps. This is how to go about it:

How to Get a Google Fax Number

The first step to getting a Google fax number is creating an account with an online fax service. Then, link this number to your Gmail account. Since Google doesn’t offer a fax service, let alone, a fax number, you would need to do this through a third-party service.

Services like CocoFax provide Google Fax numbers for free. Using this number, you can send free fax from the computer.

Key Considerations In Choosing an Online Fax Service

The following are essential considerations to make when choosing an online fax service to send and receive faxes.

Electronic signature: It is recommended that you go only with online fax services with electronic signature features. This feature allows you to sign documents digitally and return to the sender. You can sign these documents digitally using a mouse, trackpad, or stylus pen.

Clear canceling policies: Most online fax services will require you to enter your card details on the platform when signing up for their services. Some services charge you automatically after a period, say monthly or bi-annually. For this reason, you should take the time to verify whether you will be charged automatically and over what periods. Also, confirm if you can cancel this subscription when you choose or whether some requirements are to be met before you are qualified to make this cancellation.

Setup fee: Not all fax services have a zero fee for setting up. Therefore, dig deep and make your findings to know whether there are any hidden costs with setting up an account with the fax service you choose. It is usually recommended that you stick with fax services where you can set up an account for free.

Final Take!

Faxing has been made easy with the use of wireless services. The development of such services has spelled an end to the use of bogus fax machines that wail loudly and take up half the size of office space.

Using Google Drive, Docs, and Sheet, you can send a fax for free to as many recipients as possible. However, these services are not stand-alone. It would be best if you still had the input of free online fax services. These services provide you with a Google fax number, a necessary input in sending faxes through Gmail, Google Drive, Docs, or Sheet.

Price: Start from $12.99/Month
