Suggested March 2024 How To Get A Refund On Itunes Or App Store Purchases

I had subscribed to a trial premium plan for a service I only intended to test and forgot to opt-out before the end of the trial period. Then I got this painful debit alert on my phone, which got me down by $20. Well, this might not be your ordeal. But it’s a pain to mistakenly pay for a service or an app you don’t intend to buy.

If you find yourself in this shoe, then, like me, you can get your money restored and be back on track with your budget, thanks to Apple’s refund policy. Keep reading to see how you can get a refund on iTunes or App Store purchases

When can you request a refund from iTunes or App Store?

Apple is generous with refunds if you don’t break some rules. According to Apple, you can request a refund if:

You don’t have pending payments or unpaid orders tagged to your debit card or Apple Pay Cash.

Apple has approved the charge on the said service or app, and it’s no more pending.

You mistakenly subscribed to a service or never intended to buy an app.

Your kid purchased the service without your consent.

Your purchase failed to work as you expected.

Apple may accept other reasons for requesting a refund. But the above are the standards. However, Apple might not refund if you request it 14 days after the purchase. Also, they might decline your request if they think it’s not valid or appears fraudulent.

And to add to this, you can refund in-app purchases only if you use iOS 15 and later. This is because previous iOS versions create a bottleneck as they don’t provide refund control for developers.

So, it might be time to update your iOS version if you haven’t already.

How to request a refund from Apple

There are a few ways to request a refund of your iTunes or App Store purchases from Apple. You can do this on your iPhone, iPad, Android, PC, or Mac.

However, as of writing, the only way to request a refund from Apple is via a web browser like Safari or Google Chrome. The process is pretty much the same across all devices. But you’ll see how to go about it on mobile and computer.

So whatever device you choose will work, provided it has internet access and a web browser. And all you need is your Apple ID and password.

Request a refund via Mac or PC

First, open the Safari browser on your Mac computer or Google Chrome (if you’re using a PC). Next, go to Apple’s Report a Problem page and sign in with your Apple ID:

That’s it for the Mac or PC side!

Ask for a refund on the iPhone or iPad

Go to Report a problem via your Safari browser.

Sign in with your Face ID or Apple ID.

Next, tap the I would like to… dropdown → select Request a refund.

Select your reason from the Tell use more… dropdown.

Tap Next.

Scroll through the next page and select the services or apps you want to get a refund for.

Apple will send you an email notifying you of the receipt of your request in either case. However, not to worry if you don’t get an email instantly, as it might take up to 48 hours for Apple to send a reply.

How to check your Apple refund status

Can you request a refund from other non-Apple devices?

Yes. You can request a refund via your PC, tablet, or any other internet-enabled smartphone. Remember that you must log in with your Apple ID and password on third-party devices to do so.

Is every purchase refundable?

Not every purchase is refundable. Apple has the onus to accept or decline a refund request, depending on whether or not it meets its refund policies.

Can I keep using the service after the refund?

Your subscription ends as soon as Apple refunds you. So, while you can use the app or service’s basic capabilities, you won’t be able to use any paid features.

Why won’t Apple let me get a refund?

Apple might decline your refund request if it finds that you default in one or more ways. Remember that you can’t request a refund if your purchase is still pending. You won’t be able to request a refund after 14 days of using a service. Overall, Apple decides who gets a refund and who doesn’t. But it’s still based on agreement with its refund policies.

How long does Apple take for a refund?

Although you might get a refund within 72 hours of requesting, sometimes, it takes as long as five business days. Regulations by your banking institution may also delay the refund process. That said, it may take up to 30 days for the money to get into your account.

Requesting a refund for App Store or iTunes purchases is usually a smooth process if you abide by the rules. All you need is a little patience. However, Apple might decline a refund request sometimes due to stated reasons. You may contact Apple support if you feel cheated.

How To View Purchases And Manage Subscriptions In The App Store On Apple Watch

As an Apple Watch owner, you already know of the many ways your wearable can benefit you. And when Apple introduced a standalone App Store app on Apple Watch, it was another great feature. You no longer have to open the store on your iPhone to browse or download apps for your Watch.

Along with this terrific way to get apps, the App Store also lets you manage your account, right from your wrist. Although limited, you can still do things like view purchases and manage subscriptions and here’s how.

Access your account in the App Store on Apple Watch

Once you navigate to the app and access your account, you can accomplish your tasks easily. So, let’s get started!

1) Open the App Store by pressing the Digital Crown and tapping it from your installed apps.

2) Scroll to the bottom of the App Store screen and tap Account.

3) You’ll then see tabs for Purchased, Subscriptions, and Updates. We’ll cover the first two options below. The Updates tab is simple one showing your available updates and recently updated apps.

Tap Purchased to see the apps you’ve installed. If you have Family Sharing set up, tap My Purchases to see your own or a family member’s name to see theirs.

You have a handy Search box at the top if you want to find a specific app. Or, you can scroll using the Digital Crown.

If you see an app that has the download cloud icon, that means you’ve installed it on another device, but the app is available for Apple Watch too. Tap that icon if you want to download it to your Watch.

You can also tap Open to launch an app or select one to view its App Store details.

Tap Subscriptions to see all app subscriptions, both active and expired. This includes subscriptions to any app, not just those available on or installed on your Apple Watch. And this is an important feature!

Say you’re lounging on the couch or by the pool and remember you subscribed to an app. You might want to see when it’s set to automatically renew and/or make sure to cancel the subscription before you’re charged again.

Having the Subscriptions section in the App Store on Apple Watch means you don’t have to jump up and grab your iPhone or Mac. You can manage that subscription from your wrist.

At the top of the Subscriptions screen you’ll see your Active subscriptions. You can also see the date each is set to renew. And if you’re curious about inactive ones, you have a section at the bottom for Expired subscriptions.

Tap to pick one and then you can review the auto-renew details. This lets you choose a different option such as a yearly subscription instead of a monthly one (for apps that offer options). If you select another renewal option, you’ll need to confirm by tapping Continue. And be sure to read the policy that displays for your change in terms.

If you don’t want to renew, scroll to the bottom of that screen and tap Cancel Subscription. If you are within a free trial period, you can tap Cancel Trial Period too. You’ll be asked to Confirm if you decide to cancel a subscription.

Wrapping it up

It’s nice that the App Store on Apple Watch gives you these features to manage your account. Whether you want to download an app that you installed on your iPhone or make sure to cancel a subscription for an app you no longer use, you can do it all from your wrist.

What do you think about the App Store on Apple Watch? Do you like it or do you prefer to still look for Apple Watch apps from your iPhone? Let us know!

3 Ways To Get Refund If You Get Fake Product From Amazon Or Flipkart

Ideally, it’s better to record and open the package in front of the delivery executive. However, if you want to open it later, start the video recording before tearing the packing and make sure to show the parcel along with a clear view of your order details. Then open the parcel and check the product.

If you have received a fake product or something which you did not order, reach out to Amazon and Flipkart customer care with the proof. Ideally, it would be best to mail them explaining the situation while attaching all the required images and videos.

— chúng tôi (@abhishek) January 25, 2023

In the case of serious issues with Amazon, you can also try reaching out to [email protected]. Just make sure to mention your problem and other details clearly. There are chances that Jeff’s team will get back to you with a proper resolution.

We’ve seen instances wherein the Amazon/ Flipkart customer care failed to refund the customer even if the case was genuine. If you have valid proofs like video and images and feel that you’re not getting a proper resolution, you can reach out to the consumer forum.

You can reach out to the Consumer Helpline in case of the following issues:

Package not delivered

Refund not given by Amazon or Flipkart

Defective product delivered

A wrong package delivered

Empty package delivered

Return request rejected for the damaged or duplicate product.

Fraud by Amazon or Flipkart Seller, etc.

You can call 1800-11-4000 or 14404 to register your grievance.

You can SMS on 8130009809 and wait for them to get back to you.

Register your grievance online by signing up here.

Alternatively, you can also register your complaint through NCH, Consumer, and UMANG apps.

All of the details can be viewed on National Consumer Helpine’s official website. Furthermore, you can either consult consumer grievance redressal forums or submit a formal complaint under the Consumer Protection Act, 2023. One can approach the Consumer redressal forums or consumer courts present at the district levels.

Always buy from trustworthy websites. Check the URL as well.

Check the Seller’s rating and reviews before ordering the item. I prefer reputed sellers like Cloudtail India, Appario Retail, Darshita Etel, etc., on Amazon and SuperComNet, TrueComRetail, and more on Flipkart.

Always prefer buying “Flipkart Assured” or “Amazon Fulfilled” items. These products are stored, packed, and dispatched by Amazon/ Flipkart and have lesser fraud chances.

Check the product’s return policy before placing an order.

Do not accept the parcel if it looks tampered with. You’ll get a refund for rejecting the delivery.

Record a video while opening the package. If you’re not at home, ask the person who receives the product either not to open it or record a video while doing so.

This was all about how you can get a refund if you receive a duplicate or fake product from Amazon or Flipkart. Usually, most of the fraud cases are solved by nudging the customer care, while others can be settled through social media.

Microsoft Store Displays A Blank Black Or White Screen

Several Windows users have reported experiencing a blank Black or White screen issue on Microsoft Store. This issue could be caused due to multiple reasons including a corrupted Store cache, damaged system files, and incorrect time and region settings. Now, if you are also one of the affected users for whom Microsoft Store keeps displaying a blank Black or White screen, this post is what you are looking for. Here, we will discuss multiple working fixes that will help you get rid of this issue.

Microsoft Store displays blank Black or White screen

If you keep seeing a blank Black or White screen when in the Microsoft Store when launching it on your Windows 11/10 PC, you can use these methods to fix the issue:

Launch Windows Store Apps Troubleshooter.

Make sure you are connected to a stable internet connection.

Clear Microsoft Store cache.

Check whether the time and region settings are right.

Close third-party applications like VPN, antivirus, etc.

Run SFC and DISM scans.

Reset Microsoft Store.

Re-register Microsoft Store using PowerShell.

Reset your PC.

1] Launch Windows Store Apps Troubleshooter

After that, scroll down to the Windows Store Apps troubleshooter and press the Run button present next to it.

Windows will now start scanning and fixing issues associated with Store and its apps.

Once done, reopen Microsoft Store and see if the black or white screen issue is fixed or not.

If Windows inbuilt troubleshooter can’t fix the issue for you, move on to the next fix.

2] Make sure you are connected to a stable internet connection

This might be nothing but an internet connection issue. Microsoft Store requires an active internet connection to display apps and everything. There might be some connectivity issue which is why you are seeing a blank black or white screen in the Store. Hence, make sure you are well connected to the internet. You can try troubleshooting WiFi issues or switching to a different network connection. Or, power cycle your router/ modem and check if the issue is resolved.

5] Close third-party applications like VPN, antivirus, etc.

There are chances that a third-party application is affecting the regular working of the Microsoft Store. As a result, it keeps displaying a blank black or white screen. If this scenario is applicable, you can try closing third-party applications, especially VPN or an antivirus that might be causing the issue at hand.

If you are using a VPN, disable it and then open Microsoft Store to check if the problem is fixed. Likewise, if there is a third-party antivirus application running on your PC, disable it and see if the issue is gone.

6] Run SFC and DISM scans

This problem could be triggered by your system files. If there are certain system files that are corrupted or damaged, you might experience this issue. Hence, you can perform an SFC (System File Checker) scan to scan and repair the corrupted system files.

If the SFC scan fails to resolve the issue, you can run DISM to repair a corrupted system image. It is an inbuilt tool in Windows that is used to restore the healthy state of your computer.

Once done, restart your PC and open Microsoft Store to check if it has stopped displaying a blank screen or not.

7] Reset Microsoft Store

You can also try repairing Microsoft Store. As the blank screen issue could very well be facilitated due to corrupted data in Microsoft Store, you can use the Windows Repair feature to fix Microsoft Store.  If repairing doesn’t work, you can reset the Microsoft Store to its original state and see if that resolved the issue or not. Here’s how you can do that:

First, press the Win+I hotkey to launch the Settings app and navigate to the Apps tab from the left side pane.

Now, move down to the Reset section and tap on the Repair button. Windows will then start repairing your Store app.

Once done, open Microsoft Store and check if the problem is resolved or not. If not, use the Reset button instead of Repair to reset the app to its default state.

When done, reboot your PC and check if the blank screen issue in Microsoft Store is resolved or not.

Sysprep Fails On Removing Or Updating Provisioned Microsoft Store Apps

Sysprep is widely used as Microsoft’s system preparation tool for Windows operating system deployment. It prepares an installation of Windows for duplication, auditing, and customer delivery. Sysprep is a command-line tool that can be run manually as well as through a script. This tool is extremely helpful for IT administrators who want to prepare the installation of Windows for duplication, auditing, and customer delivery.

Sysprep fails on removing or updating Provisioned Microsoft Store apps

As an IT professional or support agent, you may encounter Sysprep failure while you are creating a Windows 10 reference PC/image or removing some of the side-loaded Appx packages from the existing Windows image.

The error occurs if you remove or update provisioned Windows Store apps that include built-in Windows images. Removing or updating the Windows Store Apps which also include built-in Windows images will result in an error where the tool Sysprep may fail to run.

If you receive A fatal error occurred while trying to Sysprep the machine error message, there could be three possible problem scenarios for it to happen.

A fatal error occurred while trying to Sysprep the machine Scenario 1: Trying to Remove some of the provisioned Windows Store apps

In case, the user is creating a custom Windows 10 or Windows 8 reference computer which he/she wants to Sysprep and capture.

The user wants to remove some of the built-in Windows Store apps (Appx packages) from this reference computer.

Post when the user tries to run the Sysprep operation in this scenario, he/she might get the above error and the operation may fail.

Read: A fatal error occurred while trying to sysprep the machine

Scenario 2: Remove a few side-loaded Appx packages from your image and customize it

In case, the user has an existing Windows image, also many Windows Store apps side-loaded in the image.

The user wants to remove a few of the side-loaded Appx packages from the image and further customize it.

The user boots into the reference computer and further runs one of the following PowerShell commands in order to remove the built-ins of the Appx package:

When the user tries to run Sysprep operation in such a scenario, the operation may fail with the same error mentioned above.

Read: Sysprep was not able to validate your Windows installation.

Scenario 3: Update the built-in Windows Store apps by using the Windows Store

If the user is trying to create a Windows reference image

The user connects to the Windows Store and tries to update the provisioned Windows Store apps from the Windows Store.

When the user tried to run Sysprep operation in this scenario, the will lead to the operation getting failed with the same error as mentioned above.

An additional provider has been added in Windows 10 in Sysprep, this is to clean the Appx packages and also to generalize the image. The provider works only with the following packages:

Per-user package: In this package, the Appx package is installed for a particular user account only and is not available for other users of the same PC.

All-user package: In this package, the Appx package has been provisioned into the images this allows all the users who use this image to access the app.

In the scenario where an all-user package which was provisioned into the image earlier and was manually de-provisioned from the image but was not removed for a particular user, the provider will get an error while cleaning out this package while running Sysprep.

The provider is also expected to fail if case an all-user package that was provisioned into the image was updated by the users on the reference computer.

Removing the package for the user running Sysprep, and also remove the provisioning can help in resolving this issue. In order to prevent the Windows Store from automatically updating the apps, simply unplug the Internet connection or disable Automatic Updates in the Audit mode before creating the image.

KB2769827 lays down the following steps to fix this issue:

1] Run the following PowerShell cmdlet:

Import-Module Appx

2] Run this next:

Import-Module Dism

3] Finally Run this command:

Check the below:

In the output of this last cmdlet, check the users for whom the package is showing up as Installed. Delete these user accounts from the reference computer or log on to the computer by using these user accounts. Then, run the cmdlet in step 4 to remove the Appx package.

This command lists all packages that were published by Microsoft and installed by any user of that reference computer. Because the computer is to be sysprepped, we assume that these user profiles no longer require the package.

If you have manually provisioned the apps which belong to other publishers. List them with the command-

4] Run this:

5] Remove the provisioning by running the following cmdlet:

Kindly note that this issue does not occur in case you are servicing an offline image. In such a scenario, the provisioning is cleared automatically for all the users and also includes the user who actually runs the command.

Final Cut Friday: How To Store Fcp X Libraries On A Synology Nas

Why you might consider editing from a NAS

As you grow as a video editor, you’ll likely get to the point where storage becomes a real issue that you have to address. With the rapid increase in camera quality, project file sizes continue to grow at a fast clip.

When you have individual projects that regularly eclipse the one terabyte mark, it might be time to consider a more dense working-storage solution for your videos — that’s why products like LumaForge’s excellent JellyFish lineup exists.

However, if you’re looking for something more affordable, you might try a Network Attached Storage solution (NAS). I’m a big fan of Synology and have been using its NAS products for years, so it felt natural to migrate some of my editing workflow to these machines.

Video walkthrough

10GbE connectivity

If you decide to go the NAS route, I recommend acquiring one with built-in 10GbE connectivity, or at least a NAS that’s capable of being upgraded after the fact with a 10GbE NIC like the DS1618+.

Working with Final Cut Pro X libraries over a basic Gigabit Ethernet connection is a non-starter and will only end up frustrating you. Make sure that you go the 10GbE route, and that your Mac has the ability to connect to a 10GbE network either via a Thunderbolt 3 dongle, or via a built-in 10GbE network interface like the iMac Pro and the Mac mini have.

Prior to configuration

If you try to save or open a Final Cut Pro X library on an Synology NAS that hasn’t been configured properly, you’ll receive the following frustrating error message: Unsupported volume type – Choose a local, SAN, or supported SMB location.

The good news is that with just a few simple configuration changes, you can enable Final Cut Pro X library storage directly on your Synology NAS.

Before getting started, make sure that you’ve updated Synology DSM to the latest version. Apple requires machines to be running Samba 4.3.4 or later in order to use shared storage with Final Cut Pro X.

How to configure your NAS to work with Final Cut Pro X

Note: this is just a default walkthrough. There are additional optimizations that we will explore in a future tutorial. It also may be wiser to use the nfs protocol for communication, as explained on a prior tutorial.

In this tutorial, I’m starting with a fresh installation of DSM (Disk Station Manager) on my Synology DS1618+. Although I noted how important 10GbE is, this machine doesn’t yet have a 10GbE card installed. My other Synology, a DS1817, does have a dual 10GbE NIC, and that’s what I currently work with. For the sake of this tutorial, I thought it would be best to begin with a fresh install in order to walk you through the setup process.

Perform the following operations via DSM on your Synology NAS

Step 1: Create a new volume and shared folder on your NAS to store your Final Cut Pro X library.

Step 4: On the same File Services page, disable AFP and NFS if enabled. Note some services may require these protocols, such as Time Machine. If you don’t require AFP or NFS, it’s best to keep them disabled.

Perform the following operations in a Terminal window on macOS

You can find the IP address of your Synology NAS via the System Health widget in DSM or via Control Panel → Network → Network Interface tab.

Step 6: If you receive a message stating “are you sure you want to continue to connect?” type yes and press Return on your keyboard.

Step 7: At the password prompt, enter the password that you normally use to log in to your Synology NAS and press Return. You should now be successfully logged into to your NAS.

Step. 8: Type sudo -i and press Return on your keyboard. Reenter your password and press Return on your keyboard. You should now have root access.

Step 9: Type cd /etc/samba and press Return on your keyboard.

Step 10: Type vim smb.conf to open the smb configuration file in the Vim text editor.

Step 11: Page down or use the down arrow on your keyboard to move the cursor to the line that says passdb backend=smbpasswd press the ‘i’ key on your keyboard, and press Return to insert a new line.

Step 12: On the new line, type the following: vfs objects=catia,fruit,streams_xattr be sure to include the commas. This is taken directly from Apple’s Use shared storage with Final Cut Pro X support page, but this excellent reddit post helped me to understand that commas were necessary.

Step 13: Press the ESC key on your keyboard and type :wq! and press Return on your keyboard. This will save the changes made to the chúng tôi file and exit Vim.

Step 14: Restart the smb daemon by typing restart smbd and press Return on your keyboard.

Step 15: Exit the Terminal window.

Perform the following operations on your Mac 9to5Mac’s Take

Just because you can store your  FCP X libraries on your NAS doesn’t mean that you should automatically do so. You’ll need to closely analyze your particular editing needs, storage requirements, along with the type of video that you plan to edit, in order to make sure it’s a wise decision.

Editing from a NAS is certainly doable, but a simple external SSD, or a direct attached Thunderbolt 3 storage solution may be a better choice for your circumstance. That said, if you already own a Synology NAS, have access to 10GbE, and have plenty of storage to spare, it’s worth looking into.
