Suggested March 2024 Google Photos: How To Customize Your Memories
Now and then, Google Photos will show you pictures you probably forgot you even had. It’s usually nice to go down memory lane, but there might be people you would rather forget. So, seeing them appear in your Memories is something you would pass on. The good news is that Google Photos allows you to change how it shows you your memories. You can also do things such as create locked folders for those pictures that are only meant for you to see.How to Hide Certain People from Your Google Photos Memories
There are various things you can hide from your Google Photos memories. For example, if you would rather not see that person who used to be your best friend, you can. To make this change, you’ll need to access the settings for your Memories. While you’re viewing your memories, you should see dots at the bottom right corner. When you tap on them, swipe up on the window that appears and tap on the Memories option at the bottom.
Once you’re in Memory Settings, you’ll see options for everything you can hide. For example, you can choose from options such as:
Hide people and pets
If you hide people and pets, Google will ask you to choose who you want to stop seeing in your memories. An eye with a line across it will appear when you select someone. If that person has that icon on their picture, they won’t appear in your memories. You can choose as many faces as you want. Follow these steps if you ever change your mind and want to see that person in your memories. Tap on the face again, and the eye with the line across it will disappear.
Hiding dates is just as easy. Tap on the Hide dates option. That’s the second one from the list. You should see a button that says Add dates.
When you tap on the button, you’ll see a calendar. Tap on the pencil icon at the top right to add a start and end date of the picture you don’t want to see in your Google Memories. You can enter the dates manually by tapping on the pencil icon. You’ll see an example of the format Google Photos accepts. Once you’re done, don’t forget to tap on the blue checkmark at the bottom right.
A faster way of adding the start and end date is by tapping one day from the calendar above. The first one you choose will be considered the start date. The second one you choose will be the end date. The time frame you select will be highlighted for a better view of your choice.
If you made a mistake and want to choose a new start and end date, simply tap on the new start date, and the previous dates will disappear. Don’t forget to tap on a second date and close the time frame.
The third option from the list was the Advanced option. When you choose this option, you can have various things disappear from your Google Memories. For example, you can remove:
Toggle off what you don’t want to see anymore, and you’re good to go. You can turn it on again at any time. Below the Advanced option, you’ll also see the option to customize the Featured Memories. You can toggle off or on options for things such as Previous years, Recent highlights, and Themes memories. You can also change what you get notifications for.
In the Notifications option, you can toggle off notifications for things such as:

What is Map View in Google Photos
Google has announced a huge redesign of its iconic photo storage app Google Photos. While we all love Google Photos, it has to be mentioned that the app was a bit difficult to navigate. Well, all of that is about to change. The new Google Photos is redesigned for simplicity and convenience.
While there already was a feature to group media from the same location, you can now view exactly where that location was! With the new Map feature in Google Photos, all your images and videos from a certain location will be pinned on the map.
Use the ‘Explore Map’ function to zip around the world, and find your pinned photos. This is especially helpful if you’re perusing through vacation pictures, and would like to see where exactly each picture was taken. The new Map feature uses GPS tagging to locate where your photos were taken.
The map also highlights locations of high density, indicating a larger number of photos have been taken there. Like a weather map, you can view where you have taken more photos simply by looking at it.
How to get Map View on Google Photos
Unfortunately, there is no way to get the Map feature separately. The feature is in conjunction with the new update that Google is rolling out for the Google Photos app.
According to the press release, the update will be rolling out in the coming week, so it shouldn’t be too long. To get the latest features, all you have to do is visit your App store and update your Google Photos app!
If you don’t have the Google Photos app yet, use the links below to easily download it on your device.
Where is Map View on Google Photos
As mentioned above, this new redesign of the app is focussed on making it simpler to use. With that in mind, the new Map feature is now front and center under the ‘Search’ tab. The search tab is one of the three tabs that the app is now divided into. The tabs for Google Photos can be accessed on the bottom panel of the app. Tapping the search tab will bring up your recognized ‘People’ followed by ‘Places’ which is characterized by an interactive map.
How to use Map View on Google Photos
Based on Google Maps, the new interactive map will be very similar to navigate. Once you reach the ‘Search’ tab in Google Photos, tap ‘Explore Map’ to enter the interactive map view.
At the bottom of the map, you will notice the names of places. These are hotspots for your photos. The map will provide quick search tabs to take you quickly to places that you have a large number of photos in.
Similar to Google Maps, you can slide your finger over the map to move about. Alternatively, you can scroll through the photos (below the map), to view where they were taken. As you scroll through the photos, the interactive map will automatically highlight where the photos were taken.
To zoom in or out of a particular area of the map simply pinch the map. All your old photos will be accessible on the interactive map, as long as they are Geo Tagged.
Microsoft’s Windows 10 is aligning to be the next best version of Windows and one of its new feature is the return of the Start menu, but it is not like the menu you used to see in Windows 7. The new Start menu consists in two parts: a left column that looks very similar to the classic Windows 7 Start menu to get access to recent Places, Most used and All apps, and there is the right column, which is filled with Live Tiles like you see in the Windows 8 Start screen.
Now to get the most out of the new Start menu in Windows 10, you can configure it to suit your needs in different ways:Resizing the Start menu
(Tablets by default will get the expanded version of the Start menu, which Microsoft calls “Tablet mode” also known as Continuum.)
Depending on the option you choose, Windows 10 will remember it, so if you restart your computer, after signing in, you’ll see the mode left it on.
One of the limitations is that it seems Microsoft is only including two Start menu sizes: the regular Windows 7 like mode and the full screen mode similar to the Start screen in Windows 8. It’s worth noting this, because previous build of Windows 10, included an easy way to resize the Start menu to any size, in the same way users can resize a window on the desktop. However, it would not be a surprise if enough feedbacks reach to the company and changes appear in the final product.Pin and resize Live Tiles Live Tiles groups
Quick Tip: If you like the Windows 7 like Start menu mode, you’ll find that arranging apps in such small space a bit complex. To make it easier, expand the Start menu to full screen, rearrange your Live Tiles, create groups, and configure everything the way you want, and then return to the traditional Start menu.Customizing the left side of the Start menu
Similar to Windows 7, the Start menu in Windows 10 can be further customized. In Windows 10 build 9926, you cannot customize the left side of the Start menu, which currently has two sections: Places, which features quick access to File Explorer, Documents, and Settings. And there is also the Most used section that lists all the most used apps.
Also there is a grayed out Customize button, which suggests Microsoft will include more settings in coming builds to customize how links, icons, and menus look and behave in the Start menu.Changing colors
You can also change the color intensity and you can use the color mixer to create your own color scheme.
Perhaps, the best way to implement a color scheme in Windows 10 is by letting the operating system select the right colors by scanning the desktop background you’re currently using. This will happen by default every time you install a new Windows Theme or you simply select the first option in Color and Appearance.
However, color detection doesn’t always works perfectly, as sometimes Windows 10 will simply show a black color in the Start menu. I personally don’t like it, so that is why I manually set the color in Windows 10.Account and power settings
Finally, the Start menu includes a few elements, such as the account options on the top-left corner, which allows to change the account settings, lock, and sign out from the current account. Then there is the power button in the top-right corner, next to the “Expand Start” button, and from this menu you can easily shutdown, restart, or sleep the computer.
Trying to think of the perfect gift to give your employees or high-value customers this holiday season? One that will delight while also fitting into your budget and reminding them of your business? Consider a smartwatch. It’s a modern, thoughtful and practical gift that will not only feel special to employees and customers, but can also provide benefits for your business.
The Samsung Galaxy Watch Active, for instance, offers personal health and productivity benefits. These include the ability to track a number of health indicators like workouts, heartrate and hours of sleep as well as by providing a hands-free way to check SMS messages and emails and get alerts about upcoming meetings or calls. This can shave seconds off of checking every text or email received, which can add up to a lot of time over a single year.
While your employees will love these benefits of a smartwatch, they can also benefit your business. Focusing on employee health and wellness has been shown to have a high impact on employee engagement, recruitment, retention and company culture, according to a survey from Virgin Pulse as reported in HR Dive. Similarly, when employees save time on tasks like checking messages, it lets them spend more time on other important work matters.
Finally, another compelling aspect of giving a smartwatch as a holiday gift is that it can be customized to match your brand or support a business initiative. Here’s a look at two ways you can do this.Create a Branded Smartwatch Face
A simple and easy way to make a smartwatch a more personalized gift while providing a reminder of your company is to brand the watch face. Using Samsung’s Galaxy Watch Designer, creating a new branded watchface is easy. This includes using your color scheme, featuring your company’s logo, and incorporating specific information on the watch face.Customize Wearables in the Workplace

For instance, Viceroy Hotels and Resorts, a full-service lifestyle luxury hotel brand, customized Samsung smartwatches for their employees. As part of the branding of the smartwatch, they chose to feature their logo, notifications, and battery and Wi-Fi indicators on its face.Develop a Unique App for Your Business
You can also turn your smartwatch holiday gifts into a “gift that keeps on giving.” By developing a unique app that ties to your business and preloading it on the smartwatches you gift, you can increase productivity for employees and your business in a way that also helps you meet a business goal. For customers, it can provide a reminder of your business that they’ll interact with on a daily basis.
For example, if your business is customer-facing, like retail or hospitality, you can develop an app that could deliver customer updates in real time to floor staff, such as a menu item being sold out, so that your staff can deliver a better customer experience by always having the correct information when speaking with customers.
For internal purposes, you could develop a new digital workflow application, such as one that lets employees alert maintenance when a machine is down on the factory line with a simple press of a button on the watch. This type of app can improve maintenance response times, reduce downtime and boost overall employee productivity.
By using Samsung’s Knox Configure, you can preload your app on a whole fleet on smartwatches with zero-touch. This means you can simply hand out the smartwatches and, when the employees take them out of the box and boot up, they will automatically sync with your Knox Configure profile. The Sky’s the Limit
When it comes to how you can personalize your holiday smartwatch gifts to meet employee and business goals — the sky is truly the limit. The latest iterations of the Galaxy Watch line offer an unprecedented number of use cases and opportunities for businesses in many verticals, including public safety, manufacturing, hospitality and financing.
And, developing an app isn’t as hard as it may sound. Samsung offers an open-source software development kit (SDK) tool for its Tizen-based wearables. Tizen allows developers to use HTML5 and other web technologies to write applications that run on supported devices, making development cycles shorter and lowering the cost of app development.

Photos and videos are some of our most precious digital data that we never want to lose. That’s why macOS Catalina includes the Photos app with a built-in service for backing up your photo library. iCloud Photos is the easiest way to manage your personal photo library. How it works
iCloud Photos syncs photos and videos between all your devices including edits and albums. For example, you take a photo on your iPhone, it automatically appears on your iPad or Mac.
Apple’s cloud photo library manager isn’t just great for syncing one library between all your devices. It’s also a great backup feature too. What you need to know
iCloud Photos works with your Apple ID so your identity is the same across all your devices. This is usually the same email and password that you use for the App Store.
The feature is part of Apple’s iCloud service. That means iCloud Photos uses Apple’s cloud storage and not on-device storage — although it can use both.
The important thing to know is that you need to have enough iCloud storage to hold your iCloud Photos library. When you start using iCloud Photos, your iPhone or iPad storage is no longer a limitation.
Most users will need to pay a monthly fee for enough cloud storage to use iCloud Photos. The right tier depends on the size of your photo library, and you can always change plans at any time.Storage Plans
iCloud storage plans and rates vary from country to country. In the United States, plans range from 99¢ per month to $9.99 per month. Here is each option, billed monthly:
Free — 5GB
$0.99 — 50GB
$2.99 — 200GB
$9.99 — 2TB
You can view plans from around the world here to see current plans and prices where you live. Don’t know how much storage you need? iCloud will alert you if you need more storage so it’s okay to start small.Getting started
Here’s how to turn on iCloud Photos on iPhone or iPad:
Open the Settings app
Tap your name at the top of the list
Tap iCloud → Photos → Toggle on iCloud Photos
Repeat this process on each of your devices to start syncing your libraries. Be sure to have the latest software update and the same Apple ID for iCloud on each device.
iCloud Photos also works with the Photos app on the Mac:
Open System Preferences
Toggle on iCloud PhotosManaging storage
What if you don’t have enough space on your iPhone for your photo library? iCloud Photos has a feature for that too.
iCloud Photos includes an option to save each photo and video locally to your iPhone, iPad, or Mac. This requires more device storage in addition to iCloud storage.
The benefit is that you can access iCloud Photos instantly without an internet connection, but larger libraries will take up a lot of device storage.
If you don’t have enough iPhone, iPad, or Mac storage for your entire photo library, iCloud Photos includes an option to optimize storage. Photos and videos are still accessible from the Photos app anytime, but you need an internet connection to view full resolution images.More
If you have a Mac that stays online and powered up, you can even save photos to external storage that backs up to Time Machine for an extra layer of redundancy.
What happens if you accidentally delete a photo? iCloud Photos will delete that photo on all your devices, but you have up to 40 days to recover the photo from the Recently Deleted section in the Photos app.
Personally, I’ve been an iCloud Photos user since the feature launched in 2014. I trust the service with nearly 35,000 photos and videos and growing — including memories of both of my kids, vacations, and more.
iCloud Photos doesn’t just sync and backup photos and videos captured from my iPhone. My library includes imported photos and videos from other cameras and video cameras. I trust iCloud Photos to be my one, true photo library over all other systems, and the iPhone, iPad, and Mac integration is unbeatable.
