The Verge spotted the claim in Apple’s 37-page opposition brief to the injunction sought by Epic, which would force Apple to restore Fortnite to the App Store until the outcome of the full trial.

If Epic were truly concerned that it would suffer reputational injury from this dispute, it would not be engaging in these elaborate efforts to publicize it. From all appearances (including the #freefortnite campaign), Epic thinks its conduct here will engender goodwill, boost its reputation, and drive users to Fortnite, not the opposite. That is not harm.”
Apple also denies claims that Epic is losing huge amounts of money, noting that the iOS revenue base is low compared to Fortnite’s other platforms.
It quotes disclosures from Epic that only 10 percent of Fortnite consumers play regularly on the iPhone, and claims that Epic has said Apple is the “smallest piece of the pie’” when it comes to revenue.
This hearing is purely to decide whether or not to grant the injunction. That request, says Apple, is nonsense: if Epic wants to return to the App Store until the case is decided, it can do so simply by removing its own in-app purchase option. Apple has already said it would restore the game the moment Epic does this.
Apple uses unusually colorful language to make this point.
Epic started a fire, and poured gasoline on it, and now asks this Court for emergency assistance in putting it out, even though Epic can do so itself in an instant by simply adhering to the contractual terms that have profitably governed its relationship with Apple for years. This Court was right when it previously ruled that “‘self-inflicted wounds are not irreparable injury.’”
Apple does, though, outline its broader defence to the primary Epic Games lawsuit, reiterating its position that it does not have anything close to a monopoly position in the games market.
Fortnite remains widely available on Microsoft Windows, macOS, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Android. Fortnite players who have previously downloaded the video game “will continue to have access to it on their devices and will have access to any available in-app purchase products.” Schiller declared.
It does seem unlikely that Epic can win its case, but the publicity the developer is really after may be targeted not at consumers but rather antitrust investigators. Differences in approach to antitrust law means that Apple faces a much tougher battle in Europe, and Congress has indicated that even the US may take a tougher line in future.

In what marks the next big development in the ongoing tale of Epic’s legal fisticuffs, we’ve heard that going forward, Epic Games will lose access to Apple’s developer program. Following Epic’s brazen attempts to bypass the iOS in-app purchase payment system, and the ongoing legal tussle that has ensued, Apple has made the decision to revoke all aspects of Epic’s access to their platform. It’s tough to pin down exactly what impact this might have in the future, but it’s likely to have some consequences.

And Apple gave a statement to The Verge that explained their perspective.
“The App Store is designed to be a safe and trusted place for users and a great business opportunity for all developers. Epic has been one of the most successful developers on the App Store, growing into a multibillion dollar business that reaches millions of iOS customers around the world. We very much want to keep the company as part of the Apple Developer Program and their apps on the Store. The problem Epic has created for itself is one that can easily be remedied if they submit an update of their app that reverts it to comply with the guidelines they agreed to and which apply to all developers. We won’t make an exception for Epic because we don’t think it’s right to put their business interests ahead of the guidelines that protect our customers.”
What exactly does this mean going forward? The long term implications of this move aren’t completely clear, but in the short term, it means that Epic may no longer be able to actively develop their Unreal Engine software development kit for iOS and macOS, and they’ll lose any privileged access they got to Apple’s back-end systems as part of the development program. I’d feel very anxious right about now if I were a developer using Unreal Engine for a game that was planning an iOS or macOS. From the sounds of things, existing games using Unreal Engine 4 won’t be immediately affected, but there’s a very good chance that these developers will not be able to benefit from any updates or bug fixes that will be available for Unreal Engine on other platforms.
It’s hard to imagine that Epic did not consider this at least a possibility. They have deliberately and unequivocally breached the terms of their agreement with Apple so that Apple could respond by terminating their agreement can’t be a surprise to Epic. It raises the question of to what extent should a Game Engine developer be held responsible for maintaining at the very least cordial and professional relationships with major platform holders. Even if you conclude that Epic’s grievance is entirely legitimate, there are plenty of other ways that Epic could have sought to make their case, without placing developers using their tools right in the crossfire of this dispute. If Epic had simply removed Fornite from the App Store, if they no longer agreed to the App Store terms that they had previously agreed to, perhaps Unreal Engine developers targeting Apple platforms would be able to continue to do so without having to deal with this situation.
If Epic knew full well that this dispute could spill over onto developers that aren’t directly involved, but went ahead with it anyway, I’d say that’s a pretty bad look. It’s not clear what will happen to games like The Artful Escape and Oceanhorn 2, which are both Unreal Engine games and are both on Apple Arcade. Nor is it exactly clear what might happen to games that are released, but still in ongoing development like PUBG Mobile.
At least we can find some humor in these events, if we look at the timeline, on Monday the 17th Epic received the message from Apple announcing plans to revoke their developer access. The accounts will be terminated on Friday the 28th. Apple gave them two weeks, also known as a Fortnight. Amusing coincidence or was it intended as adding insult to injury? Your guess is a good as mine.
Perhaps going forward, developers will have to take into account not just the technical functionality, development features, and levels of performance when considering which engine to use, but also how well the Engine developer is able to maintain professional relationships with each of the major platform holders, and whether they are likely to start a drawn-out legal proceeding and public dirt slinging match with a major platform holder over a dispute over revenue shares.

But this is just another in a long line of demos of such “transforming” or “curved display” tech from Samsung, LG, and the rest, right? Not so fast. Now that Samsung has proven their ability to deliver the goods with devices like the Galaxy Edge, the company is expected by the public to deliver on concepts like these with more speed. The time is now!
For now, the technology Samsung is showing is relegated to the show floor. They’ve got this rollable screen demo running at SID 2024 in San Francisco this week for the masses to see – but this is not just a proof of concept for the makers of the Galaxy series smartphone. Samsung has been delivering curved displays for several years.
Above you’ll see our up-close experience with the Samsung rollable screen this week at SID 2024. Below you’ll see photos we’ve captured of the same display from various angles.
As far aback as October of 2013 you’ll see Samsung delivering devices like the Galaxy Round, which delivered on the company’s promise to bring a new-age display to market. That phone was only released in a very limited manner – but it was released nonetheless!
Then in December of 2014 came the Galaxy Note Edge, a phone whose display spilled off its side like a waterfall.
Then came the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, a device very similar to the Galaxy Note Edge – this time coming with waterfall displays on both the left and the right of the main flat display area up front of the phone.
Here in the year 2024 we’ve got the Galaxy S7 Edge – two edges and waterproof to boot!
Here in 2024 we’ve also got the Samsung Display rollable OLED prototype. As you’ll see in the video above, this is not just a flat, one image only sort of screen. It’s ready to receive data.
This display is not yet working with any touch controls – but what’s to stop Samsung from attaching this to a gesture control module?
Below you’ll see a video showing Google’s LG “Soli” watch prototype working with their Soli gesture recognition chip. The chip is tiny – about the size of your pinky fingernail. Think of new ways to control your smart device, and it’ll be made so with a combination of these two oddities.

Offbeat, but maybe strange enough to be enticing?
If and when Samsung does deliver this rollable display technology to the masses, we can’t help but think they’ll do it the same way they did with their “curved display” tech – as fast as possible with the most versatile operating system connected to consumers: Android.
Apple has been having a buggy few months. Now we’ve got a new, serious bug in the text-rendering functionality in iPhones. The bug is triggered by a single Telugu character which can cause an iPhone to enter an unbreakable boot loop just by receiving a notification containing the character. Let’s delve in to why a single character can cause such major problems with iOS.
Note: A fix for the Telugu bug is available in the most recent version of iOS (11.2.6). If the Telugu character has locked up your app or device, restore your iPhone via iTunes and update to the most recent version of iOS. If your iPhone is stuck in a boot loop, you may need to put it in the Device Firmware Update (DFU) state to get iTunes to recognize it. When finished, restore your device from your most recent backup, which you hopefully created.What Is Telugu?
Telugu is a language spoken and written in parts of India, specifically the states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and in the town of Yanam. Like many script-based languages, such as Arabic and other Brahmic scripts, Telugu uses some special features of the Unicode character set to display its characters on a computer screen.
While most Latin letters are represented by single 8-bit Unicode code point for ASCII compatibility (for example, the letter A exists at the Unicode code point U+0041, which is represented in binary by 01000001), languages written with script or non-Latin letters typically combine more than one Unicode code point to represent their characters.
This is especially true for languages, like Telugu, which combine the languages’ versions of letters in clusters. Unlike English’s stylistic ligatures, the connection between each Telugu letter is linguistically important. To accommodate this, Unicode includes a complex system of attaching characters, each represented by their own code point, to one another.
Considering the sheer number of Unicode code points, this can create near-infinite variety. These points combine together to render a legible character. This way Unicode doesn’t need a Unicode code point for literally every possible Telugu word. Instead, Unicode combines Telugu consonants, vowels and diacritics (“virama”) together to create words that are displayed like a single character. The same applies to other languages with orthographic rules for ligatures, like Arabic.What Causes the Crash?
The problem seems to be related to the Zero Width Non-Joiner (ZWNJ) at code point U+200C. The ZWNJ requests that two adjacent characters render without their typical ligature. In English, a ZWNJ keeps the characters ﬀ from being printed with their standard connection ligature, instead separating each f. But when combined with a specific set of four Telugu code points (all of which should combine to a single cluster), for some reason iOS can’t display the result properly.
Some have speculated that Apple’s San Francisco font can’t display the character, while others have said that the specific rendering process Apple uses is to blame. Whatever the exact cause, the attempt to render the character causes a dramatic crash of whatever is rendering it, from Messages and WhatsApp to Springboard. The Unicode code points that make up the character (“gya” meaning “knowledge”) are below:

U+0C4D a virama, or diacritic mark ( )
U+0C1E nya ()
U+200C zero width non-joiners
U+0C3E aa ( )
But we can’t even blame Zero Width Non-Joiner (ZWNJ) alone. It’s also used in the innocuous family emojis (????) without any issue. It seems to be a specific combination of some specific code points and the ZWNJ. Adding insult to injury, it seems like the ZWNJ either has no particular effect on the rendering on this Telugu cluster or that it shouldn’t even be there in the first place.Other Brahmic Script Problems
Telugu isn’t the only language with this issue, however. Bengali and Devanagari, which use Unicode in a similar way for their Brahmic scripts, has the same problem. Manish Goregaokar writes a fasctinating and detailed blog post that breaks the exact crash case down even further:

To understand how this bug got through, you have to put yourself in Apple’s shoes. Sure, this character combination isn’t some super obscure word in the Telugu language. But the iPhone includes support for dozens of languages. There are literally billions of potential combinations in Unicode. With that much variety, meaningful testing for Unicode bugs before a release would make regular software updates basically impossible.
However, the error should not have caused this much damage. Phones shouldn’t get bricked based on the contents of a text message. While hindsight is surely 20/20, it seems like rendering the character as a question mark box (�) would have been better than crashing Springboard.

When you’re trying to identify your target audience for an infographic (or any visual marketing piece), first consider your central message, then ask yourself two questions:
Who are you speaking to?
What is the best way to speak to them?
An infographic is one of the most effective ways to visually communicate a compelling core message, so ask yourself these two questions every step of the way.

The core message is so obvious that it smacks you in the face: businesses are losing money because they aren’t serving customers properly. It speaks directly to business owners who want to understand how to do customer service the right way in the age of social media.2) Share Fascinating or Helpful Content
Even the best graphic designer in the world can’t compensate for dull or obvious facts in an infographic. The visuals are only as strong as the story they tell.
Your infographic content should serve one of two purposes:
It makes the reader see the subject matter in a new or different way
It helps your target audience solve their problems
Your content can also do both—but it’s important to identify your goals, and then craft the infographic content around that goal.
Take, for example, this chart from the infographic “Which CEOs Are Most Social”, which was produced for chúng tôi It compares the social network usage of Fortune 500 CEOs, Inc. 500 CEOs, and the US population.
The data reveals that regular people are much more socially active than big-time CEOs, with one crucial exception: LinkedIn.
This infographic tells a fascinating story about how corporate leadership uses social media. But it also provides helpful information to people who want to connect with CEOs—and people who aspire to become high-level CEOs themselves.3) Set Performance-Based Strategies and Goals
An infographic should be designed with the ultimate end goal in mind. You need to understand where it fits into your overall marketing and business strategy and identify the goals before the infographic is created, and then measure KPIs after it’s launched.
Do you want to establish your authority? Build links? Expand your reach on social media? Build relationships with influencers and bloggers? Some combination of multiple goals? All content and design decisions should be made in light of your stated goals.
For example, if you’re trying to build authority and establish your brand as an authoritative voice in your industry, then it’s best to use hard data, well-researched case studies, quotes from well-known industry experts, statistics, etc.
If your goal is to build inbound links, then it’s a great idea to craft an infographic full of evergreen content that can act as a resource for many months (or years) to come. Timely or current event-based infographics can be great for link building as well, but their relevance often has an expiration date. So once the content within the infographic is “old news”, then it’s value as a linkable resource diminishes significantly.4) Shareable Design
One of the most important elements of a successful infographic is whether it’s easily shareable across different platforms.
If you’re promoting your infographic on social media, it must be appropriately sized for the platform. For example, major social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, etc. all have different size requirements for images to display correctly.
Another excellent way to promote social sharing is to break your infographic into smaller, bite-sized graphics focusing on important data or points made throughout the content.

The cards allowed us to cater to readers who may be more enthusiastic about one social network or another and made it easier for them to share based on their preferences.
