A common discussion this summer in the email lists and LinkedIn groups I am in is about the iOS and macOS betas. People who manage iOS and macOS devices have to be aware of what’s happening with beta developments during the summer as we prepare to verify compatibility with printers, external devices, and applications (local and cloud). While I don’t start with this process with beta 1, I will usually begin my “official” testing around the time of the public betas. I’ve been managing macOS and iOS for almost a decade, so I’ve learned a little bit about the process along the way. When you are deploying macOS and iOS on an enterprise level, here are my tips on when to deploy macOS Catalina and iOS 13 (including iPadOS 13).

Through its mobile device management APIs, Apple has built out a lot of tools for IT administrators to have fine-grain control over how they deploy their fleet of devices. While macOS has had great software update controls for many years, it’s a recent addition to iOS (iOS 11.3). On the Windows side of the world (especially in major transitions (7 to 8, 8 to 10, etc.), it’s very common for IT managers to delay major updates for years. A lot of people would question that, but as someone in that role, I can understand wanting things to remain the same. If you control all of your applications, it creates new complexities to update an OS. On the flip side, Apple has done a great job of creating new user features while not creating tons of work for IT departments. There have been some complexities around apps that require Full Disk Access, but other than that, I’ve have great luck with quickly deploying iOS and macOS updates.

When the public beta of a new version macOS is released, I usually move my primary machine to it to begin our testing. I’ll run through the tasks and applications that our employees will use to see if there are any problems or concerns that might require software upgrades or additional training. On the macOS side, one of the first things I’ll work on testing is printing to our Xerox printers in multiple applications. Applications like Word or Adobe Reader have specific printer dialogs that I’ll want to verify are still in working order.

Since many of our applications are web-based, I’ll test the major web browsers to see if there are any additional prompts or security alerts that need to be dealt with for end users.

As we get closer to the release, I’ll make a decision on whether we will do a zero-day deployment (meaning we will support it on release date). If we want to delay, I’ll use Jamf Pro to block the release for up to 90 days.

iOS and iPadOS 13 testing

Because we use more native applications on iPadOS for our iPad deployments, I always delay the availability of a major release for the 90-day period to allow application vendors to update. While many of our students want to experience the latest features, I am more concerned about whether our core classroom apps continue to work.

I’ll test some of our apps during the summer, but I don’t expect all of our vendors to be ready on day one. While they are perfectly able due to the testing period, we often deal with large companies who don’t often work at the speed I do.

How To Make Subtasks And Sublists With Reminders In Ios 13 And Macos Catalina

The Reminders app for iPhone, iPad, and Mac got a big upgrade with iOS 13, iPadOS 13, and macOS Catalina. One of the handy new features is the option to create nested to-dos (and lists, too). Follow along for how to make subtasks and sublists with Reminders on iPhone, iPad, and Mac with the latest software.

Apple’s Reminders app has become more and more capable over the years, and this fall it has taken another big step forward. One feature that makes some third-party to-do apps more powerful is the ability to create subtasks and sublists. With the latest software, Apple has brought these features to its Reminders app for iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

However, there are a few nuances and quirks with how Apple has implemented subtasks and sublists. We’ll start with how it works on iPhone and iPad, then finish up with what it looks like on Mac, covering how to make subtasks from new reminders, how to make subtasks from existing ones, and how to make sublists.

How to make subtasks with Reminders on iPhone, iPad, and Mac Make new subtasks on iPhone and iPad (option 1):

Open the Reminders app

Type in a new reminder as your primary task

Tap the “i” to the right of the task

Swipe down and tap Subtasks

Create your Subtasks

Once you’ve got your subtasks added, tap Details in the top left corner, then Done. You can see subtasks in an expanded or contracted view by tapping the arrow to the right of your main task.

Make new subtasks on iPhone and iPad (option 2):

Open Reminders and create a new task that you want as your primary reminder

Create a second one that you want as your first subtask

Tap away from the last task you made (to be able to drag it you can’t have the cursor active on a task)

Drag the second task on top of the first to make it a subtask (naturally, works for existing tasks)

Make subtasks from existing reminders on iPhone and iPad:

Like the process above, drag the existing task you’d like to turn into a subtask on top of what you want to be your primary task

Drag more existing tasks on top of the primary to convert others into subtasks

Keep in mind you can’t have an active cursor on a task that you’d like to drag, so you may need to deselect a task to make it draggable

Make a new task that you’d like to be your primary

Now create a second one below that you’d like to be your first subtask

Drag the task you’d like to become a subtask below the one you want as a primary

Plus, GBP has a great function that allows you to set the radius on services to a specific radius, such as 10km.

It is important to add fresh content or blog posts to your GBP account regularly.

Considering that a post expires after seven days, you’ll likely need to schedule a post at least once a week. Why is this important?

GBP posts can help drive traffic and engagement.

Do you have a sale or event coming up? You can promote anything related to the business on GBP.

If you’re not confident you’ll remember to upload a blog weekly, use content scheduling apps and tools like Semrush and Hootsuite.

As far as hyper-localized visibility goes, GBP is a no-brainer.

2. Local Reviews From Local Customers

As cautious online users, the first thing people notice is often the reviews given on the GBP listing.

A positive review or testimonial can demonstrate to local customers that you are a business they can trust.

That goes a long way in moving customers through the sales funnel towards conversion or purchase.

So, how do you get reviews?

Got negative reviews? No problem.

You can use negative reviews as a way to gather meaningful customer information.

3. SEO Optimize Your Website

It would be futile to optimize just for “marketing” or ”digital marketing.” That ship has sailed!

You get the picture.

We have found that the more valuable, relevant, and consistent your content is, the more your target audience will engage with it.

But where do you start?

5. Review Your Website’s Design

The look and feel of your website are as important as the words and content that make you findable on search engines.

However, while keywords will get the visitors to your site, your design and user experience (UX) will keep them there.

For example, one of our clients is a health and fitness gym.

We’re only targeting people within a 10 km radius around their seven gyms through Google Ads.

This way, we get maximum return on investment (ROI) on money spent.

8. Feed The Funnel With Remarketing

Remarketing is an important element of your localized digital marketing arsenal.

That’s effective if your SEO or Google ad didn’t do the job the first time or the customer is still in the consideration phase of the buyer journey.

Remarketing supports other, more geolocation-specific tactics when considering how to strengthen your local marketing strategies.

So, if your Google Ads campaign (geolocation-limited) or your paid social campaign (likewise, demographics-oriented) sends traffic to your site, remarketing supports these by following those visitors around after the fact.

9. Get The Phone Going With Google Call-Only Ads

It’s also a good option if you don’t have any specific landing pages simply because your product or service doesn’t need it, and a direct phone call just works better.

One downside of local online marketing may be that you will not receive all qualified calls.

10. Insist On CRO-Optimized Landing Pages For Each Campaign

Contrary to popular belief, your home page is not your landing page.

Your home page is your home page.

It is a summary of your website with many exit points to other pages, many different calls to action (CTAs) – such as “learn more” and “contact us” – and many different focuses.

A landing page has one job: conversion.

To do this, you need a landing page designed specifically for that campaign, with lead-gen in mind.

So, the tried-and-trusted format is:

Emotive copy that includes a pain point and solution.

An image that evokes a feeling.

A CTA above the fold.

Below the fold, you can have your trust queues, testimonials, benefits, and so on.

The footer can reiterate the CTA.

That’s it.

No buttons and links that take you away from the page.

Rinse and repeat for each campaign.

11. Leverage Social Media

Social media can be a great way to grow local brand awareness and engagement.

For one, community groups often already have all your desired customers in one place.

Remember, you need to be active on the social media channels your target audience prefers.

It might not be your local watering hole, so you need to get comfortable with using platforms like TikTok and Instagram for Gen Z and Gen Y audiences, while Facebook is great for Gen X and Boomers.

LinkedIn is ideal for B2B targeting.

Post organic content, like status updates, photos, and videos, or run ad campaigns.

Much like Google Ads, most social platforms allow you to geo-target your campaigns.

This is great for localized marketing.

These enable super-localized and targeted marketing tactics.

12. Video Tells Your Homegrown Story

Video is now preferred over all other visual mediums by more consumers. In fact, 95% of enterprise B2B conversions are aided by video.

Keep it personal, keep it local, and direct your video content at the customer’s point of pain that you can solve.

Offline activations and events are one of our favorite ways of bolstering local marketing.

All of these add tremendous gravitas to your brand and allow you to connect with your target audience locally.

With so many ways to be found online locally, we are confident your local target audience will discover your products and services.

Be sure to activate and be active on Google Business Profile.

Keep your website fresh and user-friendly, and remember to regularly add content (blogs).

Find communities in real life, and create events and activities in which the local target audience can participate.

Safari In Ios 13 Lacks The Awesome Ipad

iOS 13’s Safari lacks the iPad-only capabilities afforded by the iPadOS software, such as the ability to create multiple browser windows by dragging, but there are plenty of other feature enhancements to make it a worthwhile update, like a dedicated download manager.

Both iOS 13 and iPadOS were initially released for developer testing on June 3 following the WWDC 2023 keynote address. Both software updates will release commercially in the fall.

Here’s everything new in Safari for all devices capable of running iOS 13.

Safari now packs in a dedicated download manager.

At long last, now you can download stuff such as ZIP archives, documents or just about any type of downloadable file you may encounter on the Internet—just like you would on your desktop. Anything can be downloaded and saved to the disk for later use, making your iOS device act more like a computer. On top of that, Safari supports background downloading so you can multitask like a boss while those files are being retrieved from the web.

Safari has included support for uploading photos for years.

In both iOS 13 and iPadOS, this feature is now even better because now when you want to upload a full-resolution image to a web service, you’ll be prompted to choose between Small, Medium, Large and Actual Size for the upload. With one tap, Safari will resize the source image and upload the file, saving you not just bandwidth but quite a few taps.

Faster scrolling, per-site settings & other tidbits

Apple is claiming that scrolling in Safari is a lot faster, and they’re not lying. You will instantly notice that scrolling up and down is smoother and involves less waiting for the browser to catch up on slower devices. What’s more, you can quickly zoom in and out on what you care about the most—the text—even if the website prohibits zooming (which happens a lot with dynamic layouts that automatically adapt to a target screen size).

Typing your URLs can also be faster with Apple’s new gestural keyboard in iPadOS and iOS 13.

We’ve managed to spot some nice touches, too. For instance, if you start entering a URL of a website that is already open in one of your tabs, Safari will now forward you to the right tab. A few options have been moved around in Safari’s Share menu, like new or relocated options for emailing a webpage as a link or a PDF or accessing it in Reader view.

Safari’s elevated anti-fingerprinting protections make using web fonts more secure than before.

You can adjust permissions (camera, microphone and location) and other web settings like your preferred zoom level on a per-site basis. To get to these per-site toggles, as well as your text size controls and Safari’s Reader View, just hit that icon within the URL filed.

The following Safari capabilities are available on both iPhone and iPad with iOS 13.

Updated start page: An updated design of Safari’s start page now includes your favorites, frequently visited and most recently visited websites, so you can get to the site you want when opening a new tab with a tap.

Download manager: Safari now packs in a dedicated download manager with background support. Not only does it let you see download progress, but also drag and drop any downloaded item into another app.

Weak password warnings: Safari will warn you if you attempt to use a weak password when signing up for a new website account.

Jump to open tab: If you start to type the address of a website that’s already open, Safari directs you to the open tab.

Expanded email sharing: When you choose Mail from Safari’s Share menu, you have new options for emailing a webpage as a link, PDF or in Reader view.

Siri suggestions: Siri now offers personalized suggestions in Safari based on your browsing history, links sent to you in the Messages app and more.

Website View menu: Found in the Smart Search field, this new menu is now your one-stop shop for text size controls, Reader view and per‑site settings.

Per‑site settings: Control camera, mic and location access, view a website in its desktop or mobile version, use Reader view and enable content blockers, all on a per‑site basis.

Page zoom: Quickly zoom in and out on a website’s text.

New fonts: Four New Indian language system fonts for Gurmukhi, Kannada, Odia and Gujarati are now available in Safari and other apps.

iCloud end‑to‑end encryption: Your Safari history and open tabs that have synced with iCloud are now protected with end‑to‑end encryption.

Enhanced anti-fingerprinting protection: Safari’s protections related to browser fonts have been expanded.

Other Safari features are exclusive to iPadOS, like desktop websites and dragging to create new windows in side-by-side Split View multitasking mode.

13 Things To Know About Upcoming Iphone 13 Series

iPhones are the most anticipated launch people do look forward to every year. In fact, Android users also keep a keen eye on the iPhone launch, and why shouldn’t they? Because every year Apple does something to set an industry trend for the next year, whether it is copying or adding a unique feature or hardware, or removing something from the box!! Today we’ll be discussing the 2023 iPhone lineup, and what Apple will be having in store for us. So let’s get started with iPhone 13 series.

Guessing the next iPhone name has become a bit harder since 2023 because that year Apple launched iPhone X along with iPhone 8 Series. And in 2023 they skipped iPhone 9 and launched iPhone Xr, Xs, and Xs Max.

Based on past naming conventions, the 2023 iPhone lineup could be iPhone 12s or iPhone 13. Our sources point more towards iPhone 13 Series. A recent video shared on Twitter showed a whole bunch of unreleased iPhone cases, confirming the name iPhone 13 Pro Max.

In 2023 the mini model didn’t do great as far as sales are concerned, but still, Apple is said to have a Mini version of the 13 Series. So, this year too iPhone 13 Series will come in 4 variants as follows:

Apple will continue to offer the four iPhones in 2023, with no changes in their sizes, when compared with the 2023 models. So we can expect the following sizes:

Now, Max Weinbach and Everything Apple Pro has reported that Apple is working to make an even darker iPhone 13 Pro in Graphite or SpaceGray, with a Hex Code: 121212.

According to a Ukrainian Retailers website, iPhone 13 Series will come in these colors:

Recently an image of an alleged iPhone 13 mini prototype made its way on the internet. We are not able to trace the original source, but this image again points out a diagonal camera placement.

Speaking of the Pro lineup, now 91 Mobiles has shared the 3D renders of the iPhone 13 Pro. Here we can see the triple camera layout on the iPhone 13 Pro, with a supermassive camera bump (we can’t really confirm that the camera bump will be this huge, but that’s what the pictures are stating if these renders are to be believed upon).

The notch is the most iconic thing on an iPhone. One can easily find out whether someone is using an iPhone by looking at that humongous notch at the top of the display. It’s the only part, which makes even the latest iPhone look outdated when compared to Android counterparts.

With the latest CAD renders shared by Jon Prosser, we also get a better view of the Notch of the iPhone 13 Series. It will have 4 holes, two for Face ID (illuminator and sensor), 1 for FaceTime Camera, and the last for other sensors.

But according to well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, iPhone 13 Pro Series will use LTPO technology (Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide) to lower the display’s power consumption. This will save enough power to run a display with a 120Hz refresh rate. Provided Apple is using LTPO in their Apple Watch since Series 4, the statement from Ming-Chi Kuo becomes more to be believed. Apple is getting these displays manufactured from Samsung, LG, and BOE.

It was reported on 29th May, that Samsung and LG have already begun production of displays for the iPhone 13 Series. Where Samsung is producing 120Hz LPTO displays for the Pro Lineup, while LG is producing LTPS displays (Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Silicon) for the iPhone 13 and 13 Mini.

Apple was not the first brand to introduce a fingerprint scanner in a phone, it was Pantech GI100 (2004). But Apple might be the first brand that removed it from their flagship phones that too for a long period like 4 years.

Apple is said to be on a run to remove things, it began by removing the 3.5mm jack from iPhone 7 series, and now by removing the power adapter from iPhone 12 series box. Also, there were certain claims that in 2023 Apple will entirely remove the charging port, and go fully wireless.

But, this is not likely to happen. Because, in order to do so, Apple will first need to make sure Magsafe becomes mature enough to fast charge your iPhone without generating much heat (we all know why Airpower got canceled, right? ). So don’t worry the lighting port is here to stay on iPhone 13 Series as well (No Type C port at least this time).

As mentioned earlier Apple never discloses the battery capacity of their products in milliampere-hour (mAh). But as per Ming-Chi Kuo, iPhone 13 Series will use a new internal design to incorporate a bigger battery, this includes integrating the SIM card slot with the mainboard, reducing the front optical module thickness, and more. Along with this, the new A15 Bionic chip will be more power-efficient.

Now, Digital Chat Station has reported the battery capacity of the entire iPhone 13 lineup, and this time the Pro Max has got an increase of 18%, while the Pro and 13 have received an increase of 9%, and 13 mini got 8%. With this increase, this time the newer iPhones will last longer and will provide an improved Screen on time. The battery capacity on the upcoming models are as follows:

iPhone 13 Pro Max – 4,352mAH

iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 – 3,095mAh

iPhone 13 Mini – 2,406mAh

Previously there were some sketchy reports that iPhone 13 series will have a 1TB model as well. Since Apple already does have a 1TB variant of the iPad Pro, this might certainly happen that we can get a 1TB iPhone as well. We are still not sure about it, but if it does happen, then only the Pro models will be getting the extra special treatment.

According to a Wedbush Analyst, Daniel Ives has claimed that the 1TB model is coming to the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max only.

iPhone cameras are praised a lot for their camera performance, especially for videos, which keep on getting better every year. This year too, Apple will be focusing a lot on their cameras. Upgraded Ultrawide lens on Pro Models –

iPhone 13 Pro & Pro Max will come with an Autofocus 6P lens coupled with an f/1.8 aperture. 12 Pro series had a Fixed focus 5P lens, with an f/2.4 aperture.

iPhone 13 Pro to have Sensor shift Stabilization –

Last year only the 12 Pro Max had Sensor shift stabilization, but this year even the iPhone 13 Pro is likely to have it.

Now, Digitimes has reported that Sensor-Shift Stabilization will be available on the whole iPhone 13 lineup, making its way down to iPhone 13 Mini as well.

New Electonic Image Stabilization (EIS) –

According to Max Weinbach, Apple is also working on a new EIS, which is said to work on all resolutions and frame rates, which will be the first time in the industry. It is said to be related to Subject Tracking, and internally it is codenamed “WARP”.

Portrait Video Mode on 13 Series –

This year Apple will include a Portrait video mode, which will let you record videos in portrait mode, and change depth of field in post-production.

Improved LiDAR scanning on Pro Models –

Apple is also said to improve LiDAR scanning on both Pro Models, for better portraits, new “image stabilization correction” mode that will automatically detect and keep a subject in focus during a video, as well as improved noise cancelation with beamforming.

Astrophotography Mode on entire 13 Series –

Apple is also said to be bringing Astrophotography Mode, to the iPhone 13 Series. This mode will be automatically triggered when pointed at the sky and will let you capture amazing pictures like this.

When will iPhone 13 Series launch & how much it’ll cost?

But this year, Apple is working on time to get the 13 Series ready to launch the new iPhones on 14th September, the sale will begin in later in September. In my opinion, the official teaser might be hinting towards the Always-on Display as mentioned above. As of now, we don’t have any details about the pricing of the iPhone 13 Series, but it should be near last year’s pricing only.

After you have checked off the compatibility box, move on to try out the viable tips to bring the Stage Manager back into action again.

Disable/Enable Stage Manager on Your Mac 

At times, a software feature tends to misbehave or ill-function due to an occasional glitch. In most cases, you can resolve it by just turning off/on the feature. Hence, I would recommend you disable/enable Stage Manager on your Mac. 

Keep in mind that thumbnails are arranged automatically depending on your recent use. The Stage Manager shows up to six thumbnails based on the size of your desktop. 

And each thumbnail displays a live view of its window so that you can keep a track of the updates without switching to that window.

Restart Your Mac 

Another simple but pretty effective way to fix a random issue is to restart the device. Since it has enabled me to resolve many problems in the past, I’m going to count on it to troubleshoot the Stage Manager issue as well. 

Once your Mac has rebooted, enable Stage Manager and then open some app windows to check if the windows organizer has begun to work.

Note that, by default, the thumbnails are hidden. Hence, you will need to move the pointer toward the edge of the screen to show them up.

Finally, try updating the software on your Mac. If none of the tips has worked in resolving the issue, go for the software update. As already stated above, there is a strong likelihood of a software bug. 

As most macOS updates come equipped with several bug fixes and performance boosters, there is a good chance that a fresh update may help you overcome the problem.

Once the software update is successful, try using Stage Manager to check if you have gotten the better of the problem. Most probably, it should be alright now.
